Some days you've got to do
things you don't want to do,
like take a bath!
Hang out the wash.
Pull weeds and harvest.
But when the work is done,
it feels so good,
and you can kick back and relax.
That's when you have time to
enjoy your surrounding
and the fruit of your labor.
Even take a nap πΆππΆ
Then there are days when
you have to face the fact
that your Kayaking days are over.
And sell it π’
My 80th birthday is
right around the corner.
I know that I could get in it,
paddle around for an hour or two,
but on the return . . .
I might have a terrible time
getting out of it.
Let's face it, there are days
when getting out of my
easy chair is hard, LOL.

Thank you all for stopping by
have a wonderful week.
&
God bless you
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
Well, my 86th is just round the corner too! And there's no way I could get in an out of a kayak now! Have a lovely birthday Connie!
ReplyDeleteThank you, it's a month away, but I plan on it being a day of rest and enjoyment.
DeleteOh, I hear you on the kayaking! I have one (it actually belongs to my son, but he keeps it here since we have a little pond), and I haven't been able to use it for the past few years because of shoulder/arm issues, and also because the pond is too shallow. We need more rain to fill it back up to a reasonable depth. Anyway, the getting in and out was always a challenge for me, and if I didn't have my hubby here to help me, I couldn't do it, at least not very gracefully! I love your pictures and story dialog along with it. I love the picture of your sweet doggie getting a bath, and then so nice and clean later and taking a nap. I love seeing your feet as you swing (I assume), and oh! those carrots and onions! what a blessing!! And the flowers too. I'm not much of a gardener or farmer, but I always celebrate when something grows or blossoms, and give thanks to the Lord, for I know He's really the Master Gardener around here! Thank you for this lovely post. I enjoyed every bit of it.
ReplyDeleteYou're totally correct our Lord is the Master Gardener. Also, I was in a swing it's a hammock swing that I bought a few years ago to replace the one I had that wore out. They are so comfortable.
DeleteOh dear, that sad face at bath time. I'll be turning 80 too shortly, so I know how you feel. Kind of sad that our beloved husbands aren't here to celebrate with us. And as my elderly aunt used to say, "getting old is not for sissies"
ReplyDeleteYour aunt was a wise woman, I totally agree. Especially after having two sessions with the chiropractor this week, LOL.
DeleteHello Connie, I was just fussing to a friend this morning about how some things are harder to do. I don't have the stamina I once did. I'm sorry about the kayaking, but think of the fun we'll have in Heaven if we love and serve Jesus here. A new body is going to feel fabulous!
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Laura
Yes it most certainly is . . . That's something to look forward to. Plus it's a body that won't wear out and will last through eternity :)
DeleteI like the feeling after doing a good days work. I enjoy hanging my laundry on the line though and don't consider that work. :)
ReplyDeleteToo bad about the kayaking. We still enjoy it though we haven't been out in them this year yet.
I've always loved kayaking but my friend that I kayaked with moved about an hour and a half away from here. So that plus turning 80, it was just time to sell it. I don't believe in doing water sports alone; I think the buddy system is always good around the water.
DeleteI think you do amazing Connie. With all that you do already & you have a large garden to care for. I hope you get good money for the Kayak & can buy something nice to remind you of the happy times you had in it. Wishing you a happy upcoming birthday Connie. π
ReplyDeleteJulie that was so kind of you to say. Thank you, you're a sweetie pie. π₯§
DeleteYou did good today! Now you deserve a well earned rest. I'm going to 65 on my next birthday and getting in and out of a kayak would be hard for me! I'm with Laura - that new eternal body will be wonderful!
ReplyDeleteYes it will, no more pain . . . Wahoo!
DeleteAww, that's too bad you have to sell your kayak. I've never been in one! We're both August babies...I'll be 63. My mom just turned 85. :-)
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed it for many years and I'll miss it, but there comes a time when we have to realize we're growing older. I'm grateful that I can just walk around without a cane or a walker. Many women my age can't say that. I've been blessed.
DeleteI'm only in my 60's and would have a hard time getting in and out of that kayak. Beulah's expression in that first picture made me laugh.
ReplyDeleteShe's not fond of getting a bath, but she does behave herself in the bathtub. And she jumps right in I don't have to drag her. I've even trained her not to shake the water off. She stands there and lets me dryer with one towel and then another.
DeleteOh, Connie, I understand about the kayaking! You were the one who encouraged me to get my own kayak! I enjoyed it so much but last year I gave it to my grandson because I just couldn't get in and out of it anymore. I am only 61 but back and hip issues caused me so much trouble when I would go paddle around. Oh well! At least I can say I did it which is something that I never would have thought I would do since I do not swim or like boats at all! Thanks for encouraging me those years ago. Enjoy your relaxing after all that hard work!
ReplyDeleteGrace & Peace,
Pam
I remember when you got your kayak. I'm glad you had some years to enjoy that sport too. Thanks for coming by and leaving your comment, I'm happy that I was an encouragement to you.
DeleteWe'll just have to find something else that's fun to do. π₯°
Reading the comments I see that a number of us are turning 80 in the near future. I find it hard to believe I'm that old!!
ReplyDeleteSince I broke my ankle last year I use a stick ( cane) when I go anywhere. The chance of falling and the embarrassment....
Beulah's eyes let us know how she feels about her bath. She's such a sweetie.
I love my Beulah, you're right she is a sweetie. Let's all make our 80's wonderful, we have a lot of life experiences to share and wisdom that comes with years.
DeleteThat first photo made me laugh out loud! Such a face! Lovely days filled with ordinary things are very satisfying.
ReplyDeleteYes they are, what used to seem boring now seems tranquil and peaceful.
DeleteLovely flowers. I had to smile at the dogs expression in the bath.
ReplyDeleteYeah she doesn't look too happy does she. Much happier in the picture after she's dry.
DeleteThe look on your fur baby's face. I'm all for taking a nap. LOL. I would have the same problem with the kayak. I quit taking baths and only shower for that very reason but I haven't tried since I got a knee replacement. It might be a tad easier but the hard truth is my lead butt would weight me down most likely. Love all the pretty flowers. My husband is my gardener. Hope you have a great weekend
ReplyDeleteThank you Carla for stopping by and your sweet wish for a great weekend.
DeleteThere is no way that you are almost 80. You don't look anywhere near there. I admire you for all you do.
ReplyDeleteYou're so sweet, thank you.
DeleteRemember Connie, you are only as young as you feel, and by the looks of it you are not anywhere near 80♥ Flowers are beautiful as usually. Thanks for sharing your wonderful life!
ReplyDeleteYou are very sweet. You know, some days I feel 60, but some days I feel 90 ( or what I think 90 feels like) it all depends on the condition of my back, LOL.
DeleteSometimes it is such a chore to have to get all the work done, but then when you can sit back and enjoy it, that is so nice :) It is sad when we have to start to give things up we love to do, I have had to do that recently, but so thankful for all the things I can still do :). Hope you enjoy a wonderful birthday!
ReplyDeleteYou're absolutely right, we all have many things that we still can enjoy, even find new things. There is so much for us to be grateful for. π₯°
DeleteMy hubby tells me to be thankful for what I can do! Have a nice day......Nancy
ReplyDeleteSounds like your husband's a wise man. We need to be more thankful for what we are able to do and for what we have rather than looking around it what we can't do and what we don't have.
DeleteConnie, what a neat post. It would make such a cute little book, with a lot of meaning. Your pictures are so pretty. Poor sweet baby getting a bath but then he looks so clean and pretty. Oh, I have had to give up doing so many things, especially working around here, I love starting new projects and dragging boards and heavy rocks around...but due to back and leg pain I've had to cool it. I go to a new back doctor on the 27th. :( Love, Henny
ReplyDeleteBest wishes on finding a doctor that you like. I had to find a new chiropractor and I'm thoroughly satisfied. I'm sorry that you're having pain that's stopping you from doing the things you love π₯°
DeleteHi Connie! I'm so late in getting online to comment. It's been days! We were so busy when we were in Spokane and since we've been back on the road, internet hasn't cooperated. This morning I wrote a post 5 times and Blogger deleted it each time. It said it's been redacted! Whatever that means. So frustrating.
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your post so much. Life has it's special times in the most mundane things. I think the Lord made us to appreciate the everyday things. I'm sorry about the kayaking. We have good friends that want us to start going with them, but I have the same thoughts you do! Could I get out?!
Blessings and hugs,
Betsy
There is a time for everything, and a season for every purpose under heaven, a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot . . . We know this is true and as the years go by there's a time to kayak and a time to give it up. But I find whenever we have to give up one thing there's a new experience waiting right around the corner. π₯°
DeleteOh Connie.. Beulah is so precious! What a look on her... and she looks so happy all curled up after the bath and being all dried off. How wonderful to have a companion in her! Love the simplicity of your posts and the beautiful photos! I was going to comment on this one the other day, and then got interrupted somehow just as I was going to comment. Now I see you've posted again! I'm sorry about you selling your kayak. We do try to hang onto the things we've loved doing in our younger years. I felt that way when I sold my horse about 15 years ago... having a horse was such a way of life and it was who I was! it took me 2 years to finally realize I just wasn't riding him, plus I was becoming afraid of being thrown and breaking a bone, though I'd been thrown before. It was very very sad and I still miss having a horse. Now comes the decision on selling the Van. I really CAN still do it, but do I really want to? sometimes that's the question, we "can" but do we really want to go to all that work? I even have tried the country dancing I've so wanted to do, but it sure did bother my back. I'm not going to give up on that just yet though. I'm right behind ya in the years... I just can't believe I'm reaching that age that I always thought was so old! I always felt like I had so many years left to enjoy life, and the picture keeps getting smaller and smaller, as far as what we can do to "enjoy" anything. I'm glad you've found a different chiropractor. I think I need a different one as my favorite guy of 20 years is just not doing the trick anymore. I think he is tired too and would maybe rather retire at almost 70 too! he has been my Godsend for many years and kept me mobile. I would love to find one as good who lives closer to me. Take care..... I'll go look at your next post! Hugs... Marilyn
ReplyDeleteHi Marilyn, I loved reading your comment, I've been thinking about you and wondering how you're doing. I sent you an email today π
DeleteI think of you too... often! Too bad we are so far apart!!! Hugs..... Marilyn
