Wingback Chair Slipcover/Going It Green/Repurpose, Recycle, Reuse

My good friend Mary introduced me to dumpster diving, a term that I hadn’t heard, until one day when I rescued a chair that was sitting out back by the dumpster at work.  I watched this chair for several days, then checked with the maintenance man and yes it was waiting for the garbage truck.  Well it was a nice chair except for wear and tear on the arms.

The night before morning trash day, I couldn’t take it any longer so I loaded it up and saved it from pick-up.  Took it home and used a yard of this and a yard of that and made a patchwork slipcover.  It was my first attempt at doing something like this, but it turned out pretty nice.  Notice down the back where I made a long flap and sewed Velcro down the flap to make it easy to remove and wash.

Although I have not done any dumpster diving before or since, I now have this reputation.  My husband likes to tease me whenever we see some old trash along the highway.  “Honey do you want me to turn around and get that washing machine for you?”  It’s our little joke, but truth is I really like my chair.

  2. What a wonderful job. Slipcovers are not easy to do but you've made it sound so easy. This is my first visit to your blog, so I took some time to browse through your earlier posts. I'm so glad I did that. You've created a great spot to visit and I really enjoyed the time I spent here. I'll definitely be back. I hope you have a great day. Blessings...Mary

    1. Thank you, it took an entire day, morning to evening, but I was very happy with the results. Also, thank you for becoming a follower of my blog. This is all very new to me, but up until I retired I worked as an activity director in an assisted living building. It was a 40 hour job that I always brought home and put in another 10 or 15 each week on my own. It was also a great way to combine my interests and share with others. I am finding that blogging is an excellent way to do this from home. It is also a fantastic way to meet women with common interests and create a new circle of cyberspace friends. Thanks again for your kind comment, it warmed my heart. I hope I have what it takes to create a blog worth visiting.
