Today I am just posting a page from my journal. I started this journal around a year ago, so that someday my daughter, and granddaughters can find it and remember their Mom and their old grandma Connie. Maybe even learn a little bit more about her . . . her everyday life, her childhood,
her passions and her dreams.
her passions and her dreams.
I have a couple of notebooks that my mother used as diaries. She wrote things like, "went to the store to buy yarn today, making an afghan for Connie's new baby", or "had fun last night at Deanna's barbecue, she makes the best potato salad". I treasure these little notebooks. Momma was not an artist, her notebooks are plain and simple, but when I hold them in my hands and read her words, I feel a real connection to her. My Mom never shared a lot about herself with us, but through these pages there are little peeks into her personality, sweet little hints of the woman on the inside. The woman she kept a secret, maybe because she never thought anyone would be interested.
Like I said before, I treasure these little notebooks and that's why I started my journal. The script in a journal is a true look into family history and the personality of the author. It is so much more than a ledger of a family tree.

how lucky to have some of your mom's diaries. this is a beautiful idea.
ReplyDeleteI feel blessed to have Mom's diaries and hope I pass the blessing on with mine. Hope this inspires others to start a journal, if they haven't already. Thank you for visiting my blog.
DeleteI think thats a great idea. I was thinking of doing something similar with my recipes! Great post!!!!
ReplyDeleteHi Kelly, I hope that you do start a recipe journal. Please put it on your blog, I would love to see what you do with it. I think a journal full of favorite recipes sounds so very cool.

ReplyDeleteHey Connie, love the journal page....looks very interesting.
ReplyDeleteHow nice to have some notebooks your mum kept........a lovely reminder of her.
I have kept alot of letters my mum wrote to me and when she passed away I found alot of the letters I had written to her. It's been such fun to re read them and be reminded of what was happening in my life all those years ago.
Thanks for popping by my blog,
Caire :}
Thanks for sharing about your Mom and the letter you and she wrote to each other. There is something about holding those letters in your hands and reading their words, that brings them back for just a little while. I have a brother who was drown just off a very small island just south of Guam, back in 1976, the year that Steve and I were married. I have a stack of letters that he wrote about the island and the people. Of his love of the sea and his great adventure (he was living aboard his sailboat). These letter are one of my prized treasures. The written word is something we can hold, keep and past on to our children, you just don't get that with a phone call. Have a wonderful day, Connie :)
DeleteThis is brilliant on so many levels. It is a wonderful keepsake of your personality, your thoughts, your story, and your art. I have started making a photo book each year with excerpts of my blog along with the pictures as a way for my children to always have a piece of me and a reference of what was going on in our lives that year.
ReplyDeleteYour children are going to treasure your photo book, and not just them but their children and theirs after. I wish I had something person like journals or old letters that belongs to my grandmother. I do have, from my Mom and they are among my prized keepsakes. Have a great day and keep taking those gorgeous photos. Connie :)
