Spring Garden Baby Shower

Planning a baby shower can sometimes
become overwhelming,
but at the same time it is so much fun.  Especially when you're planning it
for someone you love as much
as I love my niece.
This shower was in my backyard last June.
I could not find an invitation
(to photograph),
but they were handmade to go along
with our birdie theme.
The front of the card said,
"come help Jennifer feather her nest".

I find that having a theme
really helps to bring all your plans together.
Our refreshments also went along
with our garden party little birdie theme.
We had blue bird sugar cookies.

Bird nest cupcakes.

I dripped pretzels into white chocolate
to form the nests and then
decorated with tiny speckled jelly beans.

Our cake had seven minute frosting
and a nest of toasted coconut
filled with blue bird peeps.

Sandwiches were egg salad,
ham salad and cucumber
with little paper bird tooth picks.
The paper birdie tooth picks, the birdie
tags on the gifts for game winners,
and the birds and banner flags were
all made from recycled wall paper books.   There are so many pretty soft printed pages
in these books and usually if you hit the right day at the wallpaper store, they are absolutely free.

Although our mommy was having a boy,
it still seemed like a great time
to have her little niece and cousins put on a
fashion show (I had planned the fashion show before I knew it was going to be a boy).
The ladies attending the shower loved it.
The little girls had so much fun
dressing up like "Fancy Nancy",
so all in all it was a little extra party fun!

Teacups and saucers were the prizes
for the baby shower games.

I found them all at thrift shops
and yard sales.
 I made little net circles
and filled them with black sunflower seeds.

The front of the tags read,
"Black Sunflower Seeds",
 and the back read,

"feed the birds or plant 1/2" deep ~ keep soil wet until they sprout, then enjoy cut flowers all summer".

This was my garden scarecrow.
She wore a knit top with enough give
to stick a larger rubber ball under it.

I have a photo of our mommy
standing next to her comparing tummies.
The shower was so much fun
and
I'm sure a good memory
for our guest of honor,
and that's what it's all about.

Thank you for visiting My blog.
Please come again,
my welcome mat is always out.
If you decide that
it's a nice place
. . .
you may want to join;
I would consider it a blessing
to have you as a follower.
Have a wonderful day, Connie

    1. Hi Jamie, I love giving showers and backyard parties. Our home is pretty small, but we do host the family Christmas party inside and every year our family grows and every year our house shrinks. Therefore I like to entertain outside. So I'm always keeping my eyes open for new ideas . . . and your blog is packed with so many wonderful ideas. I love the step by step photos of the little sundress that you are featuring right now. For anyone reading this on my blog, if you love to sew or cook Jamie's blog is incredible. I would encourage you to check it out. Have a marvelous day Jamie and do come back for another visit, your blogging friend, Connie

    1. Hi Lisa, Thanks for the visit and for the kind words. Your current post looks so good, I almost went off my diet. Yes, my niece loved her shower . . . I know these were last years photos and project, but I didn't have a blog last year to share. I was a little hesitant to post them . . . but then, I'm always looking for ideas and I think others are too. I'm so glad you liked it. Connie :)

    1. Thank you for stopping by. The two youngest are my granddaughters. They are at the age where they love playing dress-up. I remember those days, don't you? I used to love digging through my Mama closet and finding dresses and shoes to transform myself into a grown-up lady. I have a collection of hats, so that is always fun for them.

    1. I have been waiting for a visit from you ever since I first found your blog. Your site is amazing. I love your little trailer and the way you have it all set up for market days. When I was a little girl my family would often go south or west for the winter season. My father was in the construction business in Indiana and our winters were too cold for outdoor work. He would just flip a coin and we would batten down the house for the winter and head out in our little trailer and see the country. Dad would find work and then in the spring we would head back home to Indiana. Because of that lifestyle in my early years, I have a fondness toward trailers. Yours' is about the cutest thing I have ever seen.
Now that I've gotten a visit out of you . . . I'm going to be working on getting you to follow. Okay, sister what is it going to take... if I would have known you were comin' I'd a baked a cake. maybe that's what it'll take. A Big Chocolate Cake. LOL Have a wonderful weekend, Connie
