Re-purposed Fabric Cabinet

Steve and I were driving by
this yard sale last week
and I spied this small glass
front cabinet.
Well, I had to check it out.
The paint was a little bit messed up
because someone had touched up the
white paint in places, but as we
all know there are many shades of white.
Not only was it two shades,
but one was flat and one was glossy.
Now comes the best part $5.

***********************************

A little paint,
a little wall paper scraps,
a couple little knobs (I only had two),
then I added a wooden spool for
the door knob.

***********************************

I had a little bottle of aqua craft paint.
So for the total price
plus the stuff I had laying around,
it still comes in at $5.

I'd say a pretty good deal,
And a great place to store my fabric.

************************************

I think it is a pretty addition
to my little studio.

What do you think?

    1. Hi Fran, I think the roses added a bit of a romantic vintage flare. That's me, an old romantic. By the way, your barge is really coming along. Nice floor and stairs, now you can start putting a personal touch to it. I love watching your progress. It is going to be a wonderful home. Connie :)

    1. Thanks you! I only had two little knobs, so the spool was the first thing I did. This was a re-do job that I did as an after thought. I put the spoon knob on, started to load it with fabric, then thought, "Why don't I just take a little time and throw some paint to it". I do like how it turned out. It certainly brightens up that little corner of the room. Connie :)

    1. Thank you! It will be so nice now too have my fabric out where I can see what I have. Before I was digging through a box each time I wanted something. Now all the patterns and colors are so easy to choose from. I think they look pretty there, too. It is always nice to find something for the studio that gives me a little better storage. Space is tight, so I have to make the most of what I have. Looks like we are going to have a raining day today, so I think I'll work on some aprons, and spend my day sewing in my little cheery studio. Hope your day is a good one, Connie :)

Glad you enjoyed your little amble through my blog.......of course, feel free to use my designs as inspriation for some gift making for your friends, your cabinet makeover is fab and has given me inspiration to tackle a welsh dresser that's been languishing in the corner for far too long and could do with a lick of paint and maybe a few well placed stencils.

I shall follow your cheerful blog, and hopefully pick up more makeover tips.

See you when the Autumn leaves show off their color, or a few rainy . . . cloudy . . . blustery . . . days before. Connie :)

    1. Hi Sharon, I agree. Why buy new? Besides that new furniture is not built as strong or with the quality of workmanship and the quality of lumber. One of the other things I like about older items, it knowing they all have a story. I collect old mixing bowls and I love thinking about the ladies before me that had their bread rising in my bowl, or their children begging to lick the cake batter from the sides. It's funny but I feel like I am connected with the women before me, that owned and used these bowls in their kitchens. It's the same thing with furniture. I guess I'm an old romantic soul. Connie :)

  29. Isn't it strange how paths cross? All thanks to the Internet. I stumbled over your sweet blogg when I visited Decorative country living, the first blogg I started following, and the reason why I today have my own little store. This is not really the post I wanted to comment on, but I write here anyway :). I love the plate (is that the right word? I'm swedish, so I'm not quite sure...) you made out of a candle stick and a simple, but elegant plate. It made me want to make one myself. I just have to find a candle stick somewhere...

You are very welcome to visit my blogg if you want to. I write in swedish though, so you might have trouble understanding if you don't speak swedish ;). I hope you will have a lovely weekend :)!

  30. Your glass-front cabinet project turned out wonderful! It's always great to have more storage--especially when it's cute too! Great job!

After years of stopping at every garage sale I saw, I'm slowly learning to drive by without stopping. It's so hard! I love finding various objects and pieces of furniture that people are discarding. But I had reached a point where I had so many "future projects" stored away, I'd need to live past 120 to finish them all! :)

    1. Susan, thank you for the nice visit. My problem is that I do not have space to store anything . . . so if I get it, I need to have a space and purpose for it before I bring it home. Once in a while I find a treasure and just have to get it, then I have the chore of decide what to get rid of to make room for it. Good luck with those future projects, remember you are the "Super" earthing, you can do it!!! Connie :)

  38. Hi Connie, finally got on here, I enjoyed your trip down the Dry Falls, when my belated hubby and I got married, (We had 2 kids each) boy and girl each, we threw kids, dogs and etc in the station wagon and off we went following the fault, from here down through the falls to the Craters of the Moon, right to the cliffs of the Snake river, returned home coming straight up through Idaho, Montana back into Canada, as I wanted to see some of that Zane Grey country! What a great Honey Moon it was! The Dry Falls are awesome, and the kids had a great time learning natural history, and seeing the face of our great North America. I enjoy your pic and stories *_* xxx Will keep in touch!
