There are so many special occasions
during the year
and sometimes we want to
set a pretty table,
without spending a fortune.
This is one of my easy-pleasy
cost effective table scape ideas.
All you need is
a little coarse sand paper,
some good glue that is made for glass
and two components.
I use pretty dishes pair with either a vase, flower pot or a bowl.
Sand the bottom of the plate
and the bottom of the vase,
flower pot or bowl.
This will provide a little
bit of tooth and make the glue
work better.
I use a five minute, two part epoxy glue.
Then glue them together and give at least a hour to set up
(just for good measure).
I look for plates and vases at
yard sales and thrift stores.
The average price for a plate or vase
is between 50 cents and 2.00 dollars.
I think that this pink pair look very 1950's.
I love this yellow plate.
I wish I had it filled with warm muffins
and you were here to enjoy them with me.
This plain white plate
was glued to the top of
a candle stick.
It is just waiting for a lovely cake
or petit-fours
and afternoon tea.
Here is just another one of my plates.
One of the nice things about them
is that you don't have much money into them.
So if you take them to a pot-luck
and your hostess like the plate, it's a
great leave behind gift.
I hope this post inspired some of you.
I do have one point that I want to make.
That is if you use a clay flower pot
with a larger clay drain plate
(which are lovely for any garden party)
be sure to use a doily or something
between the food and
the clay plate).
I worry that if the plate is
not intended for food,
it may contain a lot of lead.
That is why I only use dishesfor my cake-plates.
Have fun and if you
come up with some pretty ideas,
I would love to see them.
So, send me a link. Connie :)

DeleteConnie, I came over to your lovely blog from your comment on Lana's Life at Wildberry Cottage. I love your cake stands! I have a few very elegant ones, in glass and white; but sometimes the occasion has a colorful theme where one of these would be just the thing. I'm not very crafty as a rule, but this is one idea I'm going to actually do!
ReplyDeleteHello Jean, I'm glad you came over for a visit, and thank you for the lovely comments. You do not need to be very crafty to do this project and it is fun to throw a little color in now and then. This is such a great idea and certainly opens up a whole world of possibilities! There are so many times I find just one fabulous plate at thrift stores, but pass it by because I don't know how to use it! Thanks for sharing this!
ReplyDeleteIt's a great idea for special occasions. We are planning a 4th of July family potluck so I thought I would keep my eyes open for some red, white and blue (maybe stripes, stars, even polka dot)combinations. Then give them away as game prizes. Have a great Memorial Day weekend, Connie :)
DeleteThanks for visiting my place. Best wishes.
ReplyDeleteHi Terry, and thank you for this visit, and for following. I really enjoyed your art show photos. I remember one of my shows, where I had this photograph of eggs in the show. This was before digital and photo-shop. I had painstakingly set up this crate of eggs, painted the crate black and set all the eggs at the very same angle, then breaking one egg to expose the yoke. I shot it in black and white film and then went in and airbrushed the yoke yellow. Matted it in gray and framed it is a black frame. The piece was large about 30 X 40 including the frame. Well it was a popular piece in the show, but I remember standing back as one lady stood viewing it, she stood there for a good 5 minutes, then speaking out loud to her self she says, "Why would anyone want a picture of eggs?" I'll never forget it, just goes to show that one man's art is another man's junk. When I go to art shows I enjoy the people, as much as the art. Thank you for sharing this event with me. Connie :)
DeleteHi Connie!
ReplyDeleteLove this idea!!! Thank sooo much for checking out my blog! I am super excited to follow you as well! thanks so much and lots of love!
Angela
Angela, I am excited to see you and doublely excited that you're following me. I love making new blogging friends and sharing ideas. Connie :)
DeleteThese are SO clever and I know I've seen similar ideas, but your combos are just fabulous! Storage would be a definite problem for me, but I must have room for at least one....somewhere! This is my first visit to your blog and I love all your creativity! visiting from AIB
ReplyDeleteHi Terri, I am very happy to receive this pleasant visit. The cake-plates do take up a lot of room. That's why I occasionally give them as gifts. When I have a friend that loves one it usually goes home with them along with the leftover cake. You know the prayer, "Dear Lord if you can't make me skinny, please make my friends fat". LOL. I see from your profile that you are into woodworking, please check out my husband's blog: woodworkinandgoodeats.blogspot.com You can also find it on the right on my Blog List column. Steve is new to blogging and he gets over-joyed when he get a visitor on his site. So if you are in the mood to put a smile on his sweet old face, pay him a visit, and check out the rowboat he built. Thank you again for stopping by and have a great Memorial Day weekend, Connie :)
DeleteHi Connie,

ReplyDeleteHello Anne May, I am very happy to get this sweet visit from you and I'm over joyed that you are following my blog. This project was a lot of fun and once you spend a little time in a thrift store stacking combinations on top of each other, you too will see the creative possibilities. You can be as dainty or as flamboyant as you choose. Have fun! Connie :)
DeleteSuch a good idea for a cake plate, Connie - and just right for the special celebrations in the UK this next week for the Queen's diamond jubilee. I've got a couple of vintage glass ones from my grandma, so they'll be piled with scones and cucumber sandwiches for afternoon tea with friends - very British! But, sadly, no art deco cups! Many thanks for following my blog, glad you like the art deco post - very glad to return the compliment
ReplyDeleteHello, I have made a lot of blogging friends from the UK and it sounds like the Queen's Diamond Jubilee is the main topic. It sounds as if it's going to be a great celebration. We stopped at a little bakery the other day and my husband ordered an orange cranberry scone, it was the best sweet I had tasted in an awfully long time. Very rich with butter and very flavorful with orange zest.
DeleteHave a wonderful celebration; wish I was there to see the festivities. Your new blogging friend, Connie :)
Connie, Thanks so much for recently visiting my blog and for the invitation to visit you here. :) A friend of mine creates similar cake plates and sells them at local craft fairs! So many creative people out there and inspiration always just a click away! So happy to meet you,
ReplyDelete~Lisa @ HappyinDoleValley :)
I always have it in the back of my head to try my hand at selling at the farmer's market. Thanks for another idea . . . I would not have thought of sells these. I'm always thinking, furniture, aprons and market bags. Have a great weekend, Connie :)
