Making A New Antique

A New Antique.
Well, that is an oxymoron, if I've ever heard one.
I saw this old milk sign on Ebay,
and decided that if I wanted it,
 I could make it myself.

This piece of wood was left over from a table
 that Steve made for his Green Egg Smoker.

See His table here:
http://woodworkinandgoodeats.blogspot.com/2012/05/big-green-egg-table.html

I drew the shape out on paper.
Traced around it, onto the plywood,
and then cut it out using the band saw.

Next I painted a few sections with burnt umber paint.
Then I applied crackle paint over that
and painted the whole bottle white.

While my paint was drying . . .
I went to the computer and created my lettering.
I printed it out on card stock, to give it some strength.

Next I used a razor knife to cut out my letters
and create my stencil.

Then I taped the stencil to the bottle
and painted my letters.

This is what it looked like after painting.
Pretty cool, right?
The problem is  . . . it looks new.

~~~~~~~~
I wanted an antique.
So I sanded it and beat it with the side of my hammer.
This is a great job for when you are upset and frustrated.
To bad that . . . I was in a good mood,
this could have been more fun!
I'm almost there . . .
Next I went over it with stain,
that really helped to age it.
 Well, there it is . . .
My new antique sign.
The one on Ebay was 143.00.
Mine was from the scrap pile.
(I don't know what I'll do if Steve's scrap pile ever runs out)
I think that it turned out great,
and that it looks like it has been
hanging around for many years.
What do you think?
I'm planning on hanging it in my kitchen.
Have a great day . . .
please leave a comment, so I know you were here,
Connie :)
