Hello Sisters!
I have been so busy with our little bungalow
that I have not had much time to blog.
This may just be the way my life will be going,
until we get it ready to move in.
Here are a few photos to show you what's going on,
here on our happy little acre :)
Lots of cleaning, priming and painting :)
Someone decided back in the 1970's to wood panel
the kitchen, living room and mudroom.
I don't like using the word hate, but I hate it.
I am priming and then giving it 3 coats of paint . . .
(the good stuff with built-in primer).
It is a booger to paint.
One room becomes like painting four rooms, with all those layered coats.
This lovely green color was also inside every cupboard.
I have been painting so much this last week that I'm painting in my sleep :)

We have been feeling a lot of muscle pain . . .
That happens when you dive into this sort of job,
after being in winter's non-exercise mood, too long.
After a week of going up and down a ladder fifty times a day,
my body is starting to feel a little stronger.
Here's wishing you all
a very happy and creative week.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
I've been painting a lot too, so I know your pain. Literally. Especially have the winter down time and the muscles are not what they used to be. What you have completed looks wonderful! I think I can see just the edge of the can, but not the brand. If it's Benjamin Moore Regal---OMGosh! It's wonderful paint! That's what I've been using to paint with and I'll never buy anything else. Don't overdo if you can help it. I would paint in two hour spurts, then wrap brushes and rollers in wet clothes, take a break and go back to it later. Off and on all day. I'll check back on updates. Looking so nice!
ReplyDeletePainting is a lot of work, but so worth it in the end. Your house is already looking brighter and fresher. That's a lot of paneling! Keep the end goal in mind!
ReplyDeleteWow, Connie, just the paint alone has made a big difference! It looks fresher and much lighter in the rooms. It must be very satisfying to you both to see the changes taking place.
ReplyDeleteOh Connie, I can already see a huge difference...Wonder why they used paneling in the 70's, was it cheaper that sheet rock, was it in and hip???? Anyway, I feel your pain that going up and down ladders! I just love following along on your journey...Blog when you can, but take a ton of pictures so you can catch us up when you find time! Be careful now and always take Advil with food lol!
ReplyDeleteCarol
What a difference some paint makes. Yes I know what you mean about the paneling. I still have that 70's look in the front room and kitchen. The paneling is a beige, so we never painted it. The kitchen paneling was an ugly white and green wood grain....I finally painted over it about 10 years ago. I really need to paint the cupboards but just do not have the energy. First we need to get the roof and ceiling fixed over the kitchen. That may be in about a couple of months, I hope. That's a lot of hard work you are doing....but it will be worth it all. Will be fun to see the before and after pictures.
ReplyDeletePainting is coming along nicely. At my stage of life, I've considered painting the living room walls, but...that's all I've done. There, it's out of my system! :)
ReplyDeleteBe sure to take time to rest and hydrate!
And what a difference you're already making! Fantastic.
ReplyDeleteWow, what a difference paint makes! My parents painted their dark wood paneled walls years ago, it made such a big improvement! I know it's alot of work for you now, but just think, you won't have to repaint for many years! Your house is looking so much bigger and brighter too, great job!
ReplyDeleteThat is looking very good, Connie. I have painted a lot of wood paneling in my life, too. There is not much about to bring any joy except for the finished job! xo Diana
ReplyDeleteThis going to look wonderful, lighter and brighter, better in every way and you are going to be so happy about your effort so hang in there!
ReplyDeleteI know how that sore muscle thing goes. It does sound like a lot of hard work but just think of how rewarding it will be when you're all done. That sure brightened things up with painting that paneling.. It looks great
ReplyDeleteI just love the look of painted paneling.
ReplyDeleteI have a whole bunch of lovely inspiration pictures of nothing but painted paneling. :) I just screams cottage to me!
I guess I didn't realize you were moving...? So I need to read backwards and get caught up!
Stay safe on those ladders... and I'll peak in again and see how it's going there. :)
Pat
Oh WOW Connie you are doing such a fantastic job. Your house is going to be so lovely after all that hard work painting. I know what you mean about sore muscles, sure gets you after a period of inactivity. Looking forward to your next post. Take care.

Paneling can make you feel like you are trapped in a forest, and it is so dark! The kitchen colors are not pretty either. But how wonderful it is only paint!!! And with your talents, you will have each room looking beautiful in no time!
ReplyDeleteEvening Connie, I feel your pain!! lol! What are your paint colors? One looks like a creamy white and is there a soft blue I'm seeing? Please let us know......You are doing beautiful work.....I must say, you will probably be moved in before Ken and I move in to the cottage.....! I am soooo happy for you and Steve! It's nice to know you have friends doing the same thing.....it's a GREAT support system! Blessings~~~Roxie
ReplyDeleteConnie... I can see it's a lot of hard work but it is going to be worth it. Keeping a blog that is sort of a journal, you might find the time to write 10 minutes every night on your blog, or a half hour once a week. You will appreciate later reading about the journey with your new home. And later, your darling grandkids reading it as well! :)
ReplyDeleteXO,
Jane
Connie...it's look good and so much lighter and brighter!!
ReplyDeletehugs,
Cindy
Wow it looks different with the paint - looking good! Hope you are having fun!
ReplyDeleteOh, you're really doing a wonderful job. It looks so good. And it will totally be worth it when you're done. :-)
ReplyDeleteLove your bungalow, especially the fireplace. I had a house once that had panelling and did the same thing with white paint and it makes so much difference. It is going to be lovely when you are done. I get you about the aches and pains up and down the ladder. I am currently painting my living room. Do be careful and keep taking photos!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, you really have your work cut out for you! I hope it'll all be worth it. Keep us updated as to how you're doing - I love to see your progressive photos!
ReplyDeleteIt's already looking so much fresher! Keep up the good work!
ReplyDeleteWhat an amazing transformation all of your hard work is going to make. It's looking SO good already! I'm very excited for you and excited to see more before and after photos. Have a wonderful week! :-)
ReplyDeleteHey Connie
ReplyDeleteI feel your pain! I feel your pain every year! I'm SO READY to get our house finished!!!
Cindy Bee
Looks like a lot of work, but great. Enjoy :)
ReplyDeleteHi Connie. I'm catching up on my post reading so have missed some of your posts for which I apologise. I'm guessing that you're on the move and look forward to reading all about it when I back track. Good luck with your venture.

Wow it's lovely to have a peek inside and see what you're up too. The final picture was amazing. What a different a few coats of paint make. The room looks so much brighter and lighter. Take care of yourselves and those aching muscles. Have a lovely weekend.
ReplyDeleteAli xx
So the secret for me to not ache all of the time is to just climb up and down a ladder all day to get stronger! If only that would work for me.
ReplyDeleteJust keep telling yourself how fantastic everything is going to look when you are finished.
Hi Carol, just a note before I head over to the house. I have been putting in 8 and 10 hour days and that paneling is requiring two coats of primer and two and three coats of paint . . . I am getting so tried of the painting part of this and can not wait to get on with the yard work. After all, it is spring and Connie belongs outside :) Tomorrow I have a baby shower in the afternoon, so I plan of getting over there by 7 a.m. and stopping by 12 noon. It will be great to have a break and an afternoon to laugh and have fun with female friends. Happy Easter :)
DeleteDon't work too hard, girlfriend! I've found that home renovations are very patient and will wait for you. Every time we turn around there seems to be another project just sitting there waiting for us. I hope you and your family have a very blessed and happy Easter.
ReplyDeleteOh it is coming along nicely. How exciting. You will be an Olympic athlete by the time you're finished!
ReplyDeleteEither, I will be stronger and healthier or I will be dead. By the time I get back home from working on our little bungalow each night, I am dead to the world. I barely have time for dinner, a load of clothes and then I fall asleep in my chair watching the TV. Thank goodness for cock pots :)
DeleteIt is coming along nicely.
ReplyDeleteHi Connie,
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your squash blossom story!
Wow, you've been busy. It's amazing the transformation some paint will have on a room. Like you, I'm not a fan of paneling. It sure was popular there for a while, though, wasn't it. Your kitchen area looks so much bigger and brighter already. How cool to have an acre of land too! Will you have any chickens? My friend in Phoenix got 40 eggs in one day! Her hens have been very happy and active. She takes the eggs to work and sells them by the dozen. Lucky co-workers.
Salonpas really works for my aches and pains. I buy the patches and stick them wherever I need them. They comes in all different sizes too. I saw an Salonpas ointment advertised on t.v. but haven't tried that yet.
Keep the renovation photos coming!
Hugs,
Kay
Hi Kay, thanks for the lovely comments and for the suggestion of Salonpas. I've never heard of it, but will do some reserve. It's three in the mooring and I couldn't sleep. I've been up for around an hour now, so back to bed . . .the morning is coming and I've got lots to do :)
DeleteHave a great day!
The good thing about paneling is that it looks so nice when it's painted. Gives that beadboard effect we all love. You are working hard and it will all be worth it!
