Yesterday was a rainy spring day.
Living in the desert, we do not complain when it rains.
These spring showers do wonders to green up our dry old landscape.
What I did yesterday was surf the internet
and while I was at Pinterest,
and while I was at Pinterest,
I found this photo of a diner sign.
(I added the white shapes before I printed it, just to save black ink)
I liked it so much,
that I went out to Steve's workshop
and found a scrap of plywood to make my own.
After drawing it, I laid in my colors
and then went back to the workshop
and cut it out on the band-saw.
The real diner sign had little lights in the arrow.
I cut a small piece of paper and then
used a paper hole punch to make a stencil to paint my lights:)
After I had it painted and all my shadows laid in,
I roughed it up with sand paper,
then took it out and beat it with a rock and a couple of garden tools.
The vintage look can't be too fresh and new, you know :)
Here it is finished laying on the table.
I think that I made good use of my rainy day.
What do you think?
Have a great day . . .
and sneak a little bit of fun into it if you can.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
Love it, Connie!!
ReplyDeleteThank you . . . I love that you love it:)
DeleteLove it! Really, a very special craft for such a charming corner! Bravo!
ReplyDeleteThanks! If it would have been a sunny day, I would not have it. Sometimes the rain can be our inspiration for creativity :)
DeleteHey, that's neat! Love your red gingham curtains too. I have black gingham in my kitchen.
ReplyDeleteHi Diane, Gingham certain says country and in a very fresh way :) I'm glad that you like my project.
DeleteCute....very good work and time spent well!!
ReplyDeleteLouise
Hi Louise, thanks for stopping by and thank you, I'm happy you like it :)
DeleteI think you made wonderful use of your rainy day, Connie. You could sell those signs, you know? I bet you would have more orders than you could handle if you marketed them. xoDiana
ReplyDeleteHi Diana, my husband was saying that last night. Do you really think so?
Deletea wonderful sign, Connie! Well done!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much :)
DeleteI love it! It's raining here today, but I'm supposed to be writing an article.
ReplyDeleteRainy days can inspire creativity and they can also inspire taking a nap . . . that's the way I am felling this afternoon :)
DeleteI love your imagination. That just goes with those gingham curtains...
ReplyDeleteYou know I thought that it would look good in the kitchen, but I was pleasantly surprised how much more I liked it after it was on the wall. I think it is one of my favorite projects, believe me they won't all satisfy me this well, LOL. I'm pleased that you like it:)
DeleteHow clever you are - I love your "new" kitchen sign! Just the perfect use of a rainy day :-)
ReplyDeleteXx
I thought about curling up and taking a nap that afternoon . . . I'm so glad I did this instead :)
DeleteI am delighted that you like it.
Connie, I absolutely love that sign. Wish I had one when my girls were home with me...haha. I like the cheap part. Hope you are feeling great and enjoying the start of your spring. Blessings, xoxo,Susie
ReplyDeleteHI Susie, Last Sunday I asked my husband if he wanted to go out for breakfast, and he choose eating at home. I don't know why, but sometime after breakfast I thought about the price that went into making it compared to the price plus the tip we would have paid if we would have eaten out. The differences was about $6 to $30 dollars . . . big difference . . . so the cheap works for me, too. We even had enough sausage left over for another meal :) When you eat at home you also know that the kitchen is clean, LOL.
DeleteYou made excellent use of your rainy day. I love how you did this. You are just so clever
ReplyDeleteHi Ann, thank you . . . this was really a fun project and it filled my rainy day with sunshine :)
DeleteThat is adorable! On rainy days I usually sit at the computer...yesterday while raining I did get an Easter tablescape done, though...and posted today.
ReplyDeleteHi Marigene, well I am going to pop right over and take a look. Easter is right around the corner :)
DeleteI love the cute sign you made Connie. It looks great in yiur kitchen!
ReplyDeleteThank you Julie, I'm very happy that you like it :)
DeleteIt looks pretty sunny even when it's raining. I love the picture of your window with the banner and jars. Love the colors.
ReplyDeleteHi Debby, thank you. I do enjoy my little vintage kitchen. That window over the sink brings me so much pleasure. I have a view of an alfalfa field and the farm beyond. Also I planted two climbing roses outside that window this spring, along the picket fence. I can not wait to see them grow and hopefully they will bloom this year. I don't know that much about roses, but whenever they do grow, it will be an even lovelier view. Thanks for stopping by, I come company :)
DeleteLike I always tell you, Connie...your artistic and crafty talent never cease to amaze me! At first when I saw your sign, I thought you bought it somewhere. I absolutely love it! My favorite colors, too. I was just showing my husband how you "whipped this up". He was amazed, too. I have no idea how to even use a band saw! ;-)
ReplyDeleteHi Melanie, Well, I do take full advantage of Steve's scraps and his workshop. He has two saws that he made me promise that I would never use. That is his table saw and his chain saw. He says that you can cut off a finger or a hand way too easy, if you are not careful. I've helped him on so many projects, being his assistant that I have picked up a lot of knowledge and I love building small things. This sign was so much fun, it fact I have found that I really enjoy making signs. If I had an outlet I might try my hand at selling some:)
DeleteIt's all looking lovely, Connie. Where you are concerned, thank goodness for rainy days! I love your curtains and bunting. Thank you for your lovely encouraging comment - not long to go now for my surgery - I really appreciate your prayers and good wishes. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteShoshi
Hi Shoshi, you just keep a positive attitude and I'll keep praying (me and all of your other dear friends) we love you and much better than that, Jesus loves you. I know that you are getting excited to have the surgery behind you, but the delays that you have gone through are for a reason. There is a season for all things and I know that the very best will be coming your way very soon. Have a simply wonderful weekend and keep listening to your doctor. Oh . . . I like your new ride . . . pretty cool :)
DeleteNice touch to the kitchen.
ReplyDeleteThank you :)
DeleteYep! I think you made good use of your rainey day! Love your new sign you made too and the banner looks so cute there hanging with your curtains to match!!! Nancy
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy, it was a good rainy day! I was delighted to see your banner up, it looks so pretty on your mantel . . . so happy you like it.
DeleteEvery time I come into your kitchen ... I spot something new, besides the obvious new sign of course. I think you did a fine job on the sign...and the paint colors and... That window over your sink...is just dreamy!
ReplyDeleteWe've had lots of rainy days this march!
I am not sure I've been as productive. ;)
Hi Patricia, I was on the wall wobbling back and forth that day . . . take a nap or do sometime productive.
DeleteI'm happy that productive won out; they were pretty even matched, LOL
Ah Connie, this is wonderful! I love it when you get your chain saw out! Sorry - BAND SAW!!!!!! :) How lovely your kitchen looks. Yes, we have a drizzly day here too in Norfolk UK, but we've had so many many days of lovely sunshine over the last few weeks - albeit with cold winds - that we do need the rain. I've had a blog break for a while but am back again.... probably posting less but at least it is still going!! Much love to you, Lynne xxxx
ReplyDeleteHi there girlfriend ! I always feel that when you are not posting it is because you are out having fun and enjoying life. You are probably getting all geared up for spring and summer festivals. You can not imagine how happy it makes me when I visit your blog and see you in your amazing hat playing music with your friends. I wish that I could be a fly sitting on the brim of that hat and tagging along on your festive adventures. I'm delighted that you like my sign and my little vintage kitchen:)
DeleteYou did a fantastic job with that sign and it works perfectly in your kitchen, I would say you had a good rainy day activity!
ReplyDeleteHi Connie, it was fun and I am happy with how it turned out. I almost took a nap that afternoon instead. Thank you for your kind and encouraging words :)
DeleteThat's as cute as can be, Connie!
ReplyDeleteThank you Laurie, I had a lot of fun making it :)
DeleteWhat fun! It's perfect for your kitchen :)
ReplyDeleteThanks so much! It just brings int a little more vintage style and that's what I'm going for :)
DeleteI love your sign. It is a perfect rainy day project. It looks great in your kitchen and you did an awesome job!
ReplyDeleteHello Jean, thank you so much . . . it is always great to get such positive feel back, I truly appreciate it :)
DeleteIts raining here as well. I think I should begin my project!
ReplyDeleteThere you go . . . rainy days are great for indoor projects :)
DeleteOh Connie, this is too cute! I love it and the colors you used are just perfection! I have been trying to decide on a sign for my new kitchen. I really love yours...:) Have a wonderful Friday!
ReplyDeleteHi Vicky, I am delighted that you like my sign. It's so much more fun to make your own than to dish out money that you could use somewhere else. As home owners, there is always a place to spend, LOL. It got up to 70 degrees today and I mowed the yard for the first time this year. It felt so good to get some sunshine and exercise :)
DeleteConnie, it's wonderful...What a great job. I have been toying with getting a band saw, now I really want one
ReplyDeleteCarol
Hi Carol, I bought Steve this one about fifteen years ago for Christmas, and I probably have used it as much as he has, LOL. Great tool! You will love it, but get a good one:)
DeleteSooo Kitchsy Kute!!! LOVE your reds, and turquoises~~~Your talent is amazing! Blessings~~~Roxie
ReplyDeleteHi Roxie, thank you . . . you are so sweet :)
DeleteWow! I love it!! Your kitchen is darling too, Connie :)
ReplyDeleteThank you so much . . . I do enjoy it :)
DeleteFantastic kitchen!! What fun.
ReplyDeleteThank you . . . I'm glad you like it. I love my old solid wood cabinets and like to play up their vintage charm by adding a little 40's and 50's style:)
DeleteHi Connie! It's nice to meet you! I love your kitchen colors!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much . . . come visit again, my welcome mat is always out :)
DeleteGood use indeed. You're so creative. What a great sign. Our weather has been horrible. High winds, rain, and cold keeps coming day in and day out. We're looking forward for warmer temps. Today, we will be painting the bathroom. Of course, we're repainting it white, but I have a few things I want to do in there to decorate. Stay safe.
ReplyDeleteHi Denise, painting a room is always fun to me . . . it's like getting a brand new room in the house. Here's hoping that your weather turns pretty very soon and thanks for taking time out of your busy day to stop in and say Hi :)
DeleteSuch a cute addition to your kitchen.
ReplyDeleteI like a bit of whimsy in a room :)
Thanks for the tutorial also. It looks pretty do-able.
Have a happy day.
~K.
