Remembering My Quilts

Today I spent a few minutes looking back at the quilts that I have made,
since first starting my quilting adventure.

I started out with my first quilt
in the fall of 2013.
My goal was to make quilts for our two granddaughters
and our daughter for Christmas.

Abbey loves horses.

~~~~~*****~~~~~
My second quilt was for Lucy.
Lucy is a happy little girl,
that loves everything :)
 ~~~~~*****~~~~~

My third quilt was for our daughter.
She is into yoga, nature and being happy.
She loves bright and cheerful colors.

 ~~~~~*****~~~~~
 Next #4 was a quilt for my sailing hubby, Steve.
 ~~~~~*****~~~~~

#5 was my first "quilt as you go" quilt.

The back

 ~~~~~*****~~~~~
#6 a fun quilt made from the scraps
that where leftover from the 5 quilts before this one.
Hexies are a great way to use up your scraps :)
 ~~~~~*****~~~~~

#7 Sunbonnet Sue.

~~~~~*****~~~~~
#8 was inspired by scraps left
from the legs of an old pair of jeans
and the red and blue star print given to me
 by my neighbor's sweet daughter.
It was so much fun to make.
I used stencils and paint on the denim,
and just had fun with the stitches :)
~~~~~*****~~~~~

Well, that is the extent of my finished quilts.
I do have two that I have started and put away on the shelf,
to enjoy the early spring weather
that has come our way.

Well, I hope that I didn't bore you . . .
with this post.

~~~~~*****~~~~~
I'm outside getting my hands dirty,
in the sweet warm earth,
instead of staying inside sewing.
Have a wonderful day
&
Enjoy it no matter what weather
you are experiencing.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
    1. Thank you, Betty!
      You know I am just a beginner, and I don't follow a pattern . . . I just make it up as I go and have so much fun doing them :) Some experienced quilters might laugh at my attempts . . . but my family treasures them :) That's what is important. I am delighted that you like them, thank you again :)
  2. Not boring at all Connie. Quilting is on mu bucket list, but at this point in life, I just have not time to get into it. I certainly plan to get into it in the future though. All of your quilts are so pretty. Your first ever quilt looks so professional. You are a natural! Enjoy digging in the dirt...it's good for the soul! Have a lovely Sunday.
    1. Thank You Diana, it's fun seeing how different fabrics can come together in a quilt. I enjoy making them and my family enjoys being cuddled up in them, so that's what it all about to me:)
  4. That's what I love about quilting, you can create the quilts of your dreams, or the dreams & whims of those you love. Your quilts are obviously done with love and knowing well what your loved ones will appreciate. Inspirational !
  5. I enjoy seeing your work no matter what it is that you're making. It's never boring here. You are not only very talented but you inspire me to want to create. I love all of your quilts but I think #8 is my favorite because of the colors. I absolutely love how you did the stitching especially the flowers around the polka dots
    1. Hello Ann, #8 does have a vintage feel about it. We all remember Sun Bonnet Sue and polka dots. They just seem to go together. I am very happy that you like it and that you were not bored with this post.
My quilts are far from perfect, but I give it my best shot and have so much fun making them :) I'm happy to hear that you are also having nice weather that allows you to get outside and play in the dirt. Springtime, isn't it wonderful!
  8. I wasn't bored at all, Connie. They are all beautiful! And I like the way you incorporated each of the recipients 'loves' into their quilt. I think my favorite is the red and blue one at the end. And, the way you stitched around the polka dot making it look like a flower. Very creative!
    1. Thank you so much, Laurie. They were all fun to make . . . my granddaughters tell me that they cuddle in theirs every night and that they take them with them when they travel in the car. It's a way that I can give them a warm hug even when I'm many miles away :)
  9. hi Connie,
    Wow, doesn't time go by! I remember the post about your first quilt! Has it been two years already?!? What a fun look back at all the quilts you've made. I really love how you personalized them for your grandkids. Adorable.
    The snow is finally out of my backyard but not quite time to plant. They say to be safe not to plant anything until after Mother's Day. I do need to get out there and do some maintenance though.
    Hugs,
    Kay
    1. Hi Kay, they say the middle of May for us, but the last two years we have had a very early spring. I'm still going to be careful and wait before planting many garden vegetables, but I think that my roses will be fine. I planted 12 rose plants this year . . . I have never grown them before, but I thought that my picket fence needed roses growing along it. I'm happy to hear that your snow has melted, you ready had your share this year. Happy Spring!
  11. So neat to see all the quilts you have made, I seem to be a big fan of scrap quilts here lately and still want to make a hexagon quilt so that is my favorite so far!! Love seeing your signature blocks on the back too, I usually just use a pen and write, but I like how you have stitched some of them, such a neat touch!
    1. Hi Connie, I always enjoy reading your comments, we have so much in common. I think that the best quilts are those made from scraps, in fact my hexie quilt has 49 different fabrics in it. They are a great way to use up scraps and a fun thing to have beside you to work on while watching TV. You know, when the hubby is watching his alligator hunting, ice trucking and hot rod shows, LOL
  12. Hi Connie! So glad we found each other on this bloggy world! Your quilts are as pretty on the back as the front! You are smart to sign each one..I have just today looked into starting a hexi quilt. Just what I need! Another project but I want to teach my four granddaughter something they can practice at home between sewing days and so we will all learn together! Thanks for stopping by my blog and I look forward to seeing you soon! xoE
    1. Hello Eileen, first of all thank you so much for following my little blog. I love meeting sister quilters and sharing ideas with each other. I think that it is absolutely marvelous that you are teaching your granddaughters to quilt and sew. Not only are they learning a wonderful art but they are making long lasting memories with you that they will carry in their hearts for the rest of their lives :)
  13. What a lot of pretty quilts you have made!! Your embroidery adds to much to the quilts and I love the way you have personalized them. I have never done a hexie block. I posted your pretty spring banner hanging from my mantel today if you get a chance to take a peak. Thank you so much! Today it is snowing. Boooohoooo! Nancy
    1. Oh Nancy, I am so sad to hear that you are having another snow. I am sitting here in our little office room with the window open. It's a little bit cool but it's great to get the house aired out and breath in the fresh spring air. The way I do hexies, is I draw a hexie pattern on my computer and then copy and paste a page full. Then I print them out and use them to paper piece . . . it's a great thing to do while watching TV. If you do this be sure and save your hexie page, so that you will always make them the same size. It doesn't matter what size you make them as long as they are all the same :)
  17. Love these quilts! So pretty.
    I can sew and have made t-shirt quilts, rag quilts, but as far as any intricate piecing, I'm so hesitant. Did you take a class? I'm not sure how to get the pieces all the same size and then get them to all fit together in rows, etc.?? I have a rotary cutter/mat, but I'm terrible at it! Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
    I would dream of making quilts as beautiful as yours!
    1. Hi Gina,
      You are so sweet. My tip is to have fun with it. I have not taken any classes, nor have I ever followed a pattern . . . I just plan as I go and turn it into a little adventure in sewing :) If it's too restrictive, then it is not for me. Creating should always be filled with the freedom to be yourself and to do your own thing :)
    1. Hi Holly, you must have a collection of grandma's quilts . . . I think that is very special. There is a lot of love that goes into making a quilt, so your grandma is giving you a little hug . . . each and every-time you snuggle under one of her quilts :)
