Spring Means Work . . . But I'm Loving Every Minute Of It

I have been doing so much work outside.
Including spray painting our old glider.
Our weather really broke last week
and we have been having beautiful weather.

The last four days the temperatures have
been in the 60's and even hit 70 one day.
I've never grown roses before,
but I have been planting quite a few this spring.

They say, "Make hay while the sun shines"
So, that's what I'm doing.
The house work is taking a back burner, so to speak, LOL.
This morning I woke to a rainy cloudy day,
so I may have to get some of that back housework done, today :)

For all of you sweet blogging sisters that are covered in snow,
I'm wishing you an early Spring like ours.

Our neighbors were having their trees topped.

So, I went over and asked the men
if they would do a small job for me.
Can you guess?

I want a tire swing for our granddaughters
when they come to visit.
Hey!  We live in the country now,
so we need an old fashioned tire swing :)

We could still get snow this year or even very cool weather.
I certainly hope not, because my apricot trees
are budding and ready to bloom.
I would hate to loose all the chances
of having fruit this year.

So, as you can seen by these photos
I've been getting a tremendous amount of outdoor work done.

I pulled the old pick-up under the apricot trees
and pruned them.
I didn't have to stand on a ladder that way.
 Smart thinking, right :)
I wish that I would have thought of it
last summer when we were picking apricots, LOL

I built these planter boxes and plan on building enough of them
to go across this area behind the garden.
When Steve is at work . . . his tools are mine Ya ha,ha,ha :)

I purchased myself a toy at Home Depot.
Come visit and I'll let you spend time in it.
I might even bring you a cool glass of sun tea :)

I planted roses . . .

Lots of climbers to go along the picket fence.

That should give our home a warm
and cozy old fashioned cottage feel.

I've planted two tea roses under bedroom windows.
And as you can see, I started a garden journal.
I wish that I would have started it last year
when we had our first garden,
but last year was overwhelming, with so much to do.
A journal was just not on my list.

Gave the porch a second coat of paint.
I only gave it one coat last year when I painted.

I've been raking leaves and moving dirt.

Every-time I do a job I think to myself . . .
I've got to get all that I can done,
because I don't know how many years I have left in me, for this much work.
I'll be 70 in September :)

Well, enough about my jobs . . .
Which I am totally enjoying;
Anytime that I can work outside on a warm sunny day, is heaven to me.
The other night we built a fire in the backyard.
Then called our neighbors to come over.
We sat outside roasted marshmallows and gazed at the stars.
It was so nice :)

What have you been doing . . .
I certainly hope that if you are in the
Northern Hemisphere,
you are starting to feel warmer spring weather.

Keep Smiling !
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  1. Connie, I love that you are so busy in the yard...taking advantage of the warmer weather. I have been outside working, as well. Hung a new swing under my oak tree. I call it my thinking swing, for that's where I go when I need to think and ponder. I love your garden journal. I need to start one of those. Have fun playing outside. ,

    1. Hi Laurie, I love the idea of a thinking swing, it paints a pretty picture in my mind:) I think that my garden journal will ready help me in remembering what I have planted and when and to look back and see all the accomplishments that we had made around our place. Sometimes it is easy to get caught up in all that needs to be done, and you forget to look back at all that you have already gotten done.

    1. That space in front of your home is an alfalfa field. It is wonderful looking out at all that space and fun to sit on the front porch and watch them cutting and bailing. Last year they had at least four cuttings, maybe five . . . I can't remember which.

  5. You are such a busy bee. I love roses.....your's will grow nicely I am sure. I got my roses from Spring Hill...the only one that lived is 24 years old and makes the most beautiful flowers. It's a salmon color, the other two are white and yellow. Oh there is a red on that was supposed to be a bush but has yet to produce what they said it was going to do. I love your journals....so neat, the swing, red glider, hammock, fire pit, your porch.....you are going to have so much fun this summer watching everything grow. Wish I lived next store to you....I'd love to come over and gaze at the stars with you roasting marshmellows by the fire. Sounds like a great night!!!

    1. Hi Louise it would be lovely having you as a neighbor . . . are you ready to move? I'm new to growing roses, but just printed a sheet that I found online called The Do's & Do Not's of Roses. I'll learn all that I can and then see what happens:)

  6. Wow Connie....you are a busy lady! Good for you taking full advantage of the good health you've been blessed with. Your projects are looking great and I love your journal. I hope to still be active and love creating when I'm your age. You're an inspiration! Have a lovely evening.

    1. Hi Vicky, what a sweet comment. I certainly do not take my good health for granted, but thank my dear Lord each and everyday. I am retired as an activity director in an assisted living building. We had people in there younger than myself, even before I retired. We do not have a promise of good health tomorrow, or even life tomorrow . . . we need to be excited and thankful for each and everyday :) I wish you a long and healthy life. I'm trying to think of the song, but there is a line in one of Tom Petty's songs that says, "If you never slow down you'll never grow old" . . . I'm not ready to slow down yet, LOL.

  7. I am so glad that you are able to get out and enjoy the nice weather. We were in the 50s here today but know it won't last. Our normal high for now is 30 something. Wish I were 30 something-but I digress....anyway, you got LOTS done. Good for you, Connie. How nice to have a fire and neighbors over...and a tire swing is a wonderful thing! xo Diana

    1. Good Morning Betty, Our spring weather came very early this year, so we could be in for another cold spell . . . but while it is pretty. . . I will be outside enjoying it :) I'm planning on planting sugar peas in that longest planter. I'll be able to tie string up to the pickets and down to the planter box for them to climb on :)

  10. Your energy and enthusiasm are amazing! I really admire women like you who do so many things inside the home and outside in the yard. And I love how you're making your own pretty garden and weather journals. I think that tire swing should be for you, too - they're fun! I would love to still swing on one of those. And then I'll rest in your pretty hammock with a good book. :-)

    1. Hello Marie, I might have gone over board with my planting of roses, but I know that it will take them a few years to really get established and I think that they will look so pretty along our picket fence. I have always dreamed of a little cottage in the country and now that we have one . . . well, I want to make up for all the years that it was neglected and bring back the place it was always suppose to be. I'm sure that if homes could talk, it would say thank you :)

    1. Good Morning Kerin, Spring must be the most looked forward to season of them all. Well, at least for adults; I do remember looking very forward to snow as a kid and then all the holidays that go with the cold season. Now, it is Spring, glorious Spring! As you can see ours came early this year, so we still could get another cold zap, but for now I'm enjoying it to the fullest :) I'm debating whether or not to paint the tire before I put it up. What do you think?

  15. Oh Wow you have been getting alot done, I am so bummed we are having good weather too but I just had Cataract surgery yesterday and they are telling me not to bend over for a week and do just light house work so I feel like a lot of this nice weather is being wasted, but I can walk in it and that is so nice to walk in nice weather again. Your yard is looking great and I love how creative you got to trim your tree!!

    1. Hello Connie, My husband has had cataract surgery in both of his eyes and he was able to throw away his bifocal prescription glasses. He still needs those drug store reading glasses for fine print, but other than that his vision is perfect. You will love the results :) I am getting jobs done that I only dreamed of doing a month from now, so I very happy about that. The sooner the jobs are done the more time we will have for fun :) Enjoy the sunshine on your shoulders this week, and maybe next week you can get your hands in the new warm spring soil :)

    1. Hi Nancy, I hope so . . . my mother was still pretty active up until her mid 90's . . . so I have the genes for it :) My husband's grandmother was still managing her apartments until just before her 100th birthday, and she was still walking the three blocks to Safeway with her little hand cart. She was a amazing women, with tales to tell. She owned two houses that were converted into apartments, in the University District of Seattle. She lived in one and had four that she rented out.
