Have You Ever Wanted To Cry After A Hair Cut?

Have you ever wanted to cry after a hair cut?

You take them a photo  . . .
You question them after the first . . .
no turning back cut.

And you leave with a hair cut that is
three inches shorter
than the photo you took in.

Trying to
Keep Smiling.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  1. Connie, all I can say is, it grows back. Sorry to hear about your misadventure - you'd think these people wielding scissors would be professionals, right? Maybe you'll find a cool way to wear your new style using Product!! And coloured hair gel. Maybe you'll go wiiiild! Keep smiling.

    1. Hi Melanie, I'll keep smiling, at least when I'm not looking into the mirror, LOL Like you said it grows back . . . not quick enough, but it will get there:)

    1. Oh, I stopped the person cutting it and the owner came over looked at it and said to this person, "didn't you even look at the photo she brought in?'
Then she took over and salvaged it the best she could. It will grow back . . . it will grow back . . . I know, I know that it will grow back. That is going to be my theme song for a while :)

  3. Dear sweet Connie. Don't cry. Keep smiling. It will grow out, and fast! Our hair keeps on growing, thankfully! I have been where your are and just felt sick. I bet you look beautiful, it's just a change. Hairdressers with scissors scare me to death. They don't know when to stop! I once had my long hair cut and permed...36 inches cut off. I could hardly look in the mirror. It will be okay. Love, Henny

    1. Hi Henny, thanks for your encouragement. I know that it will grow back . . . not quick enough for me, but it will get there. I don't even want it as long as it was, but my face and personality are just not suited for really short hair. I think it looks wonderful on most people, just not me.

  7. Yep, something like this has happened to me...maybe not 3 whole inches shorter though. I will never forget the time I got my first perm in a solon when I was in my 20's...my hair was burned off at the roots (not all) but I had "nubs" all over my head ...kinky curly and felt like doll hair. It was horrible :(

    1. Oh Debby, that must have been terrible for you. I think that the younger you are the worse it seems. That least at my age, I know that in about four months it should start looking like the photo I took in.

  8. Yes I have and I am so sorry that this happened to you. I know its only hair and that it will grow out, but I am sure today, those words just don't help. Hope you can work with it or cover it with a hat. Its just a bad feeling when it happens and you have to live with it for so long. Sorry for the bad day.

  10. Yep - twice. And this last time was just a few weeks ago. It was a new girl (the girl who usually does my hair has a broken arm!) and she cut my hair not only too short, but a bad cut on one side, too. (I have a lot of layers.) I had another beautician friend tell me that in 2 weeks, I wouldn't even be able to tell that it was cut badly due to the new growth - and she was right. I also looked at it this way...I have two friends with cancer right now, one with breast cancer and the other with lymphoma - and both of them have completely lost their hair due to chemo. So I tried to keep this in mind as I thought, "At least I HAVE hair!" You'll be back to smiling in no time. :-)

    1. Hi Melanie, Thank You! I needed to hear that and to put this in the right perspective. It will grow back and it will be lovely again. Hair really should not be something to take up so much of my energy thinking about. Now, I'm getting off this computer and starting dinner. I might even have a little while to work on my quilt. Thanks again . . . you gave me that little kick in the butt, dose of reality that I needed :)

  11. there have been several hair cuts over the years that I have not been happy with. I've gotten to the point any more though that if it's not what I was expecting it's no big deal, it's only hair and it will grow back :) Sorry you didn't get what you wanted. You would think with a picture they would have gotten it right

  12. Yes. Once I had my long blond (to my bra strap) hair cut in layers and given a body wave. I wanted to be able to wear it in soft waves, shoulder length. I walked out looking like Harpo Marx. I'm not even exaggerating. Harpo Freakin' Marx. To top it off I was pregnant. That bad haircut was 30 years ago and I still shudder when I think of it.

  15. Oh dear Connie. I'm sorry you had a Very Bad Hair Day!! Hair cuts make such a difference. I guess the only thing I can say is that after a short hair cut, your hair will thank you for it eventually as it will grow back stronger, and more lustrous.I once had about a year of bad hair cuts until I found a good cutter.I guess like Melanie above, we have to be thankful we even have hair! Go wild..yes..have some frosting put in!!

    1. Hi Judy, I have natural frosting in my hair, and I kind of like the gray. You are so right about Melanie's comment . . . it was exactly what I needed to hear and I'm grateful that she was brave enough to say it. We all need a dose of reality once in a while to get us back on the right track :)

  16. Oh Connie...sorry to hear you had a bad experience at the hairdressers......um, I used to be a hairdresser and I loved when the customer brought in a picture. It was always a challenge to make the person look just like the picture even if the hair did not flow the same way the picture did. I usually came pretty close. But there were those days that nothing went right.....the lady never came back. It's all a learning process. One good thing....the hair grows back. I don't go to hairdressers too much....I do my own hair and if I cut it wrong.....just wait till it grows some and cut again. Today I cut my bangs.....amazing how much a difference that even makes. If we lived closer I'd come cut your hair, but alas I am in Wisconsin. Have a good day despite the bad cut. When I was younger and went to the hairdresser...they always thought they did a great job....but I would come home and redo it cause I did not like it...guess that was the hairdresser coming out in me even back then. I don't know why hair is such a big thing to us.....but as we get older and greyer....it's our crown of glory and everyone looks at our crown, down they????

  20. I'm sorry Connie. There are few things that are harder on our self esteem than bad hair. I don't know if this is an encouragement but I would like to share that when I was 39 (23 years ago) I had breast cancer. A few months into treatment on Christmas Day, I had to shave my head as there wasn't enough hair left to even attempt to comb it anymore. I discovered that I had a really cute shaped head and that I looked quite dashing in a headscarf and hat. After treatments were over and my hair started to grow in I learned there were a lot of different ways my hair could look as it grew in and most of them turned out to be cute even if they weren't what I would have chosen for myself. I bet your hair looks cuter than you think and fortunately in just a week or two it will already take on a new shape. Keep your chin up girl. And if all else fails find a cute hat. You always have such a positive attitude about life that you inspire me and I know that you will overcome. :)

    1. Thank you for the encouragement. The initial shock has worn off and I feel silly for putting so much importance on my hair. That's not to say I like what happened . . . I don't and I can not wait for it to grow another two inches, but in the list of what is important in my life, my hair is way down on the list. I'm grateful that I have hair and that it will grow . . . Oh, and I do have several cute hats :)

  21. I'm so sorry, Connie. I know it will grow back, but in the meantime, it's an awful feeling to look into the mirror and not like what you see. I've certainly been there. Once I went for a cut and it was so awful that the next day I went to another hairdresser and got a much shorter, but beautifully shaped cut and I wore it short for years. Yes, it will grow.

  22. I have cried over haircuts! One was so bad I actually really, truly wore a hat for about 3 months. People would compliment myhats and I would just grin and bear it. It was just horrible. Another time I wanted a perm and cut. Well, over a period of at least 3 hours she cut, permed, cut some more, styled, cut some more, styled - it just went on and on. Other customers came and went and the salon got quieter and quieter as the other stylist were just gawking. I felt like a prisoner is my only excuse for not running out the door. I do not have much luck with hair professionals.

    1. I do not either . . . that's probably one of the reasons I normally wear my hair in a longer style, but every couple of years I think I want a change. So, off I go at the mercy of a stranger. If I could do today over, I would try cutting it myself :) I used to do that before injuring my hand . . . but maybe I still could. I've just not tried since then. It will grow back and I have several cute hats . . . and my health . . . and plenty of reasons to smile :)

  23. Haircuts that made me cry, No...a "body" perm before my senior prom, so I could have thicker, fuller hair that then made me look like I stuck my finger in a light socket, yes that did make me cry, a lot. I could not fix it. I tried ironing my hair and washed it repeatedly. Nothing worked. My hair took really well to that perm and it probably took a year to finally look somewhat normal. I never got another perm and have just made do with my flat, thinning hair. I also found a really good hairdresser and have followed her to every salon she has worked for. Her haircuts are not cheap but I love the way she makes me look and feel. My aunt went to a salon once and she had almost no hair left by the time the manager got done fixing her hair. I think almost everyone in my family has had a horrible cut at one time. It does grow back.

  27. My daughter has corkscrew curls and as a child she hated them more than anything. At 9, she begged me to let her cut her hair which she wore almost waist length. I didn't know that she thought her hair would be straight when it was cut. She looked adorable with a mop full of red curls, just like Annie, but she hated it. She looked at me and the hairdresser and said, "put it back, right now!" Obviously that didn't happen and it was several years before she was happy again.

Now she spends a fortune to have it chemically straightened!

  28. PHOTOS PLEASE! You are SUCH a tease, Connie, leaving us up in the air like that lol lol!!! I'm sure it isn't so bad really. Anyway at least it will grow again! I don't go very often and just get them to trim it off and re-layer it a bit, usually when I'm having a perm to get my curls back. Last time I went and got it coloured with wacky colours but they were a bit timid and it didn't quite come out how I wanted, so I've been doing it myself since and I'm getting lots of positive comments as well as some pretty funny looks lol! I tell them it's one of the side effects of my chemo which usually raises a laugh, and one of the nurses today said that people will start saying "What are you on? Can I get some too?" Lol!! Have a look at this: https://www.blogger.com/profile/00028185699225457125 I've just updated my profile pic as the other was quite a few years out of date! 31. Hi Connie, I am sorry that you got a bad haircut. On the other hand in this hot weather it may turn out to be a blessing and after it grows out in a couple weeks it will probably look lovely on you. I have gotten bad cuts but I have just wavy hair, what they call finger waves, and unless it gets cut the way finger waves should be cut it doesn't go naturally very well. 34. I have gotten so many bad haircuts at the salon that I can not remember them all. I made a really bold move a number of years back that I have been thankful for ever since. On the third date with my new boyfriend, I let him give me a haircut. Crazy right? I had been on a rant about how I hated getting a haircut, they never do what I ask for at the salon and that it was so expensive. It had been over 8 months since my last haircut. He offered to cut it for me and I said OK. He used the really good hair shears, sectioned and pinned up my hair and then took off just an inch as I asked him to. After he finished, I dashed to the mirror to check his work. He gave me a great haircut. I have not been back to the salon since and woul not evn if it was free. He trims it every other month, and he has never given me a bad haircut. It saves me hundreds a year and I love the attention of having him pour me a glass of wine, cape me and comb my hair before he cuts it. I am spoiled now.
