Have You Done Any Autumn Decorating?

Everyone in blog-land is decorating
their nests for the Autumn season.
I just can't seem to get started.

My sweet friend Shirley just returned
from a cruise where they visited
a port in Nova Scotia.

She saw this and thought of me.
I think it is adorable :)
Do you even have any idea of the time it must
have taken to stitch this?
Much more patience than I could ever muster up :)
I want to find a small branch
to hang it from and then,
hang it in my dining room.

Steve has been wanting to make sausage.
He is even thinking about building a small smokehouse.
I made him a sign for his shop barbecue kitchen.
This was my final sketch.

This is his sign.
I'll give it to him this evening.
I hope he likes it!

I'll leave you with this . . .
pine-cone fire starters.
I have an old wooden dough-bowl
of them sitting on the fireplace hearth.

I think they would make a
great gift to anyone
with a fireplace or fire-pit.
Even for folks that love camping.
How about a basket full as a hostess
gift at Thanksgiving :)

Is anyone interested in a tutorial?

Well, until my next post . . .
I bid you all a great day.

Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

    1. Good Morning Mari, there are so many ways that different types of needles and the skills and talents that we are blessed with can create wonderful treasures. This little piece is so charming and I know that it will look pretty in my little cottage dining room. That and the fact that I will always think of my sweet friend when I see it. Her friendship is a blessing and this little rug is a treasure :) Thank you so much for stopping by to visit and have a wonderful day :)

    1. Good Morning Angela, I'm delighted that you like my sign, he loved it and went right out to his shop and hung it last night, when he got home from work :) I'll start gathering some more pine cones and work on a tutorial soon.

The fire starters are easy to make and some of the top stores sell them at Christmas.

$39 a bit over priced I would say, but take a look.

    1. Hello Ann, Well, Steve loved his sign and had it hanging in his shop before he even asked me, "What's for dinner", LOL.

  5. Hi Connie,

I bet Steve LOVES his sign! You did a great job on it, as you do with anything you do. The rug is very cool. Did she buy the kit and make it? I remember doing something kind of similar years ago and it was hard on the hands.

As for decorating. Not me this year. I do have one little pumpkin bling that's out. I am finally getting my condo appraised tomorrow and hopefully we'll still be able to close on October 31! The place I'm buying hasn't been appraised yet and don't have a schedule for it. We were hoping to close on November 4 but that may not happen. Either way maybe I'll be able to move in a bit before the closing. My buyer is anxious to move in and she's put her house on the market. It's all like dominos.

Hope you are doing well. So glad I popped over to see what you've been up to.

    Hugs,
    Kay

    1. Hello Sweet Kay, It's not easy managing your time with packing, closing, selling, buy and moving . . . Oh My!
I do hope that you will be able to get this all none before cold weather. My friend purchased the little rug (already made) in a little sea port shop in Nova Scotia. It's going to look adorable in my dinning room :)

  7. Seriously! You should go into the sign making business! I bet Steve will love it. I haven't done the first bit of fall decorating yet. I want to, just can't seem to get started.

    1. You sound just like me . . . I really want to decorate my mantel but I just can't seem to get going on it. There is so much to do around here this time of the year and I have been a bit under the weather. I'll soon snap out of it and be my self again :) Thank you for the compliment on my sign. I'm going to make a few for fun this winter and then look for an outlet for selling them. We'll see if anyone likes them enough to buy them :)
Have a lovely day and thanks for stopping by.

  8. Hi Connie. Sure, I'd love to see a tutorial. It's colored wax that you dip the pinecones in? Does the wax build stuff up inside the fireplace chimney though? I think your idea of keeping them in a wooden bowl near the fireplace is super. Susan

    1. Hi Susan, it is wax and I really don't know the answer to your question about the chimney, but I do know that they sell these in top end stores during the holidays. Check this Crate and Barrel site.

They are easy to make and you can save and reuse the ends of all your used candles.

  11. Love your little rug from Nova Scotia. We saw them in Peggy's Cove and around Cheticamp. I bought a small coaster and wish I had bought something larger. now I just have to go back to Nova Scotia! Great job on the sign. I agree, you should go into the business of sign making.

    1. Nova Scotia sounds wonderful. This came from a shop in Cheticamp, maybe one that you were in . . . I love handmade items, they have a way of bringing more warmth into a room. My sweet Shirley was so thoughtful to be thinking of me on her trip . . . I'm blessed with her friendship :)
Thank you for your encouragement on my sign making . . . I'm seriously thinking about making some and trying to sell them :)

  12. That is a great sign. I'm sure your husband will love it. I also like that gift from your friend. It seems to suit your blog perfectly. The firestarters would be a wonderful idea. I like that little bird that's sitting with them too! For some reason blogger won't let me post any blogs the last few days. I'll keep coming here and commenting and long as it will let me. But you probably won't see any new posts from me for a while.
    Blessings, Betsy

    1. Hi Betsy, I have had a couple other blogging friends talk about troubles that they are having with blogger. I have found in the past that they end up fixing themselves over time. It's that "Time" that is annoying. I've been there before, too. I'm one of those people that tap my toe waiting on the microwave . . . that is not a good thing, and I'm working on it daily :) I'm delighted that you like my sign making. I'll get out soon and gather some pine cones, then I can start working on a fire starter tutorial. They would be great for you on your camping trips :)

  15. I did do some fall decorating, but I try to keep it as simple as possible these days. I've really scaled back over the years.

    1. Now that we have the room to build things like that, he is getting excited about it. I've started pinning little smokehouses on Pinterest so he will have some inspiration. I am excited that he will have hobbies and interests other than TV, when he retires. I think our little acre will keep us just busy enough to make retirement fun and give us the exercise each day to stay active.

  18. I just can't seem to get into the mood yet for Fall. Have been working for the last two weeks (outside of my home) and then got sick on the last day! so now recovering and probably won't feel up to par for a week or so (flu I guess).. and then heading to the Oregon coast to see my son.. then home on the 20th, and then "maybe" will feel like doing something around the house. It's messy and dusty and needs alot of TLC! I don't do much for Fall anyway.. just a pretty tablecloth maybe and a centerpiece (if we can manage to clear off our table(desk) of all our junk. The hooked rug is darling.. my girlfriend made some years ago, for her dad who was in the construction business. One was of a big yellow backhoe! Beautiful job she did too. What alot of work! I would love a tutorial on the pinecones... but they sure look pretty just sitting around in a basket or something. I would think maybe using bees wax would be easier on the chimney.. just a thought. And your sign... really neat. I assume it IS made from wood. Was hard to tell. I still "dream" of having a spot to do some woodworking, but right now our garage is full of boxes and tubs from our move a year ago. Sigh... I do so love wood signs. Handmade from the heart is so much better than storebought. Hope you feel better soon. Marilyn

    1. Sounds like we both caught that nasty bug that's going around. I'm feeling much better and hope that you will be better soon, too. My sign is made of plywood scraps. When we did the inside of the Art Barn, I wanted it walled in plywood so that I could paint it and be able to put a nail any place that I wanted. I hate putting nails in sheet rock. Therefore; we had a lot of plywood scraps left over . . . great for signs :)
