Queen Anne Lace

Don't you just love being able
to easily go to Google
when you have a question about something?

Look at this . . .

My carrots are going to seed  . . .
and they look just like
Queen Anne's lace.

Guess what I learned?
"Belonging to the carrot family,
Queen Anne's lace is a biennial
that is also known as wild carrot."

While I was in the kitchen
with the camera . . .
I had to take a few more shots.

We are still busy canning.

 I've also had a Birthday
since my last post.

I was blessed with so many gifts
and visits from friends & family . . .

Just to show you a couple gifts . . .
this MUG RUG and card are from Nancy at:
Cozy Thyme Cottage
http://cozythymecottage.blogspot.com/

This is the first bowl that
Steve has ever turned on his new lath.
I love it!

I have one more gift to share.
I just found out about a new granddaughter.
She was born 29 years ago and found me
on the internet.
It's a long story . . .
but a delightful surprise :)

How blessed can one woman be?

Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  5. I didn't know that Queen Anne Lace belonged to the carrot family. Thanks for sharing that info.

    1. I love Queen Anne Lace and was surprised to find that my seeding carrots looked so much like it . . . I had to look it up . . . then finding out that they are related was another surprise. I remember when going to the Encyclopaedia Britannica was the only way to find these things out. That was a trip to the library if you weren't one of the fortunate that had a set in your home . . . we were not, LOL. Now it is just a click away:)

  6. How exciting to find a new family member. You have been busy with canning (we call it bottling here). I freeze all our produce, and now the tomatoes have finished I have lots of sauce and soup ready for the Winter.

    1. I've got a load of tomatoes picked and washed sitting on the counter wait for me to canned them this afternoon. I like the sound of bottling them up and love learning new (to me) phrases from my UK blogging friends. My great grandfather was born in Leeds and later married and moved to the Isle of Man, do you live anywhere near there?

  8. Connie, I love that your canned foods are on open shelves....so pretty. Made me think of my aunt Helen's canning. She always have a rack of shelves with all the jars showing in her kitchen...just so pretty. Happy birthday to you. Hope you have many more. Your husband's bowl looks great. My Ted works with wood also. He enjoys it so much. Blessings, xoxo, Susie

    1. Hi Susie, this lathe is a new toy for my Steve and he is having fun working with it. I see wooden Christmas presents in our future :) I love the fact that he is starting to find more hobbies to do out in his shop . . . retirement is right around the corner for him and I think hobbies are important.

    1. Thank you . . . my husbands and I just learned to can last year and we are enjoying eating from the garden all year. It's wonderful to know exactly what is in our food and how they were grown. This is our fourth garden. We started gardening after we moved to the country for our retirement. While our friends were all downsizing we purchased a fixer upper on an acre of land. We call it our gym membership, LOL.

    1. Hello Rain, I'm happy that you like my kitchen. Our home is around 110 years old and when we redid the kitchen we kept it to a minimum . . . new counter-tops, new sink and modern appliances. We kept all the old cupboards . . . I like the vintage look and I like thinking about all the women who have prepared meals in this kitchen before me.

  11. Oh my goodness, Connie, look at all that canning. I think it's wonderful when people still can goods. I recently got some homemade plum and peach jam. And I also got one of those mug rugs this year as a gift. I had never heard of them before, aren't they creative? Your kitchen is so cozy and welcoming, and I've always loved the Queen Anne's Lace. Happy Birthday, my dear.

    love, ~Sheri

All my life I have worked and only dreamed of gardening and a country way of life, now in my retirement I am living that dream and loving it. Never stop dreaming . . . some dreams do come true:)

I love my Kitchen Aide . . . this is my second one, I wore the first one out, LOL. They sure are nice on the hard working recipes like bread and cookie dough. I don't know if I could kneed dough for twenty minutes anymore with my arthritis. Here's wishing you a lovely day and thanks so much for stopping in to visit :)

  16. Hi Connie, I am so glad for you that you have met a new granddaughter! How special and I know you will have lots of fun getting to know her. Your hubby is so talented making that bowl for you. That is special too! Thank you for mentioning my blog! I love your cheery kitchen with the reds and blues. How could anyone stay blue working in a kitchen like that. Way to go on all your canning. I get an F in that department this year! Queen Anne's lace is so pretty but it is about done in this area. Have a great week-end. Nancy

  17. Your kitchen looks so wonderful with all the beautiful jars of garden goodies! I would love some open shelves like that. How fun to display it all right there! I would love a Kitchen aid mixer too for making my gluten free bread. I tried my bread machine but it didn't turn out too well. Real gluten free bread is something I have as yet to attain (homemade). Happy Birthday to you too! Ours are close together.. mine was in late June. Steve's wooden bowl is gorgeous. How fun for a man to find a hobby. I'm still trying to get mine to find "something" to do besides sit at the computer most of the day! He says he wants to work with wood and has some tools still in the boxes! A girl can hope though. Our weather is cooling down a little bit too.. only in the 80's now. I notice one night next week will get down to 37! My flowers are all fading and looking dried out already. Interesting about the Queen Anne's Lace... it always grew in huge amounts when I live up in Washougal, WA (east of Vancouver, WA).. and I've taken many of photo of it as I love it's intricate look. I just discovered a neighbor who has a plum tree and they're ripe... so I get to go over this weekend and gather them ALL up.... I'm going to make plum jam! Yum. I used to gather wild plums years ago up by Washougal. It must have been an old orchard as there were many plum trees wild along a gravel road. You guys are sure going to town on your canning! Glad you are enjoying it so much. Take care and have a nice weekend.... hugs.. Marilyn

    1. I've experienced finding old fruit trees along hiking trails and old abandoned homesteads . . . free for the picking. They never get sprayed or pruned and cared for, but sometimes still grow amazingly delicious fruit. When I was a kid playing in the woods in Indiana, once in a while you would come across a huge old apple tree and I always wondered if it could have been planted by Johnny Appleseed . . . it's very possible, that was part of the territory where he roamed :) Don't you think that, that his is a sweet legacy to leave behind and be remembered for?

  18. You have taught me something new with your information about the plants and their relationship. Good to know. Love seeing all the jars lined up after canning. Hopefully that is me in 6 months time. And Happy late Birthday wishes!!
I looked back through some posts and enjoyed the cuddle quilt you made for your special friend and well as the one for your grand daughter. Both are lovely.
And last of all - how exciting to find another grand daughter - what a surprise!

    1. Hi Karen, it is lovely to have you visit. It's still a little strange to me thinking about the seasons being the opposite in the Southern Hemisphere, but I do enjoy getting out of the snow in the winter by touring the gardens of my SH blogging sisters. So I've been told that canning is called bottling in the UK. What do you call it? I kind of like the term bottling, after all we are putting them into glass jars. Thank you for your sweet words concerning my projects, I do appreciate hearing them . . . they are all a lot of work, but work done with love and a happy heart :)

  20. Happy Birthday! That Oz card really caught my eye. The sweet verse, so true. Your kitchen is such a fun place. Love the canning you've done. And the beautiful potholders. Recently, I've been making pot/pan rugs --a little bigger than potholders-- to provide landing places on my new Formica countertop (which doesn't like hot pots.) An excuse to add a different kind of warmth to my kitchen. ;-) Carrot flowers! Beautiful in the sunshine and in the dark below ground. (Must be a sermon there.) Congratulations on a new granddaughter. One can never have too many.

First thank you so much for stopping by my blog and introducing yourself! So nice to meet you and thank you also for your very kind remarks. I just popped over quickly before I head off to bed to say hello and check out your blog. I love to repurpose too! I am in awe of all your canned goods....that is one thing I have never tried! I find it intimidating. You apparently have it down to a science! Happy belated Birthday! You received some lovely gifts! Have a wonderful week and I will be back. Following you too! 1. Hi Linda, thank you for the sweet visit. As for canning I learned to can tomatoes last summer and this year I am doing much more, but all with the help of You Tube. It is a good feeling being able to not just eat from the garden in the summer, but to eat from it all year. It was very intimidating at first and when I watch a video, I watch it three or four time before tackling the task. So far, so good :) I'm excited about getting to know you better and do hope that you will visit again and follow me back. I have met the nicest people through blogging:)
