May Flowers

Do you have a favorite garden tool?
Well, this is mine.
I should have taken a before picture of it.
It is very old and the handle
kept falling off when I used it.
So I showed it to Steve . . .
This is how it looked when he was finished
with it.
He ground off the rust and went to his lathe
and made a new handle.
Now, I see many more happy years of
using my favorite tool :)

While I am talking gardening,
I just have to show you some of my plants.

My shade plants are doing well.

And the flowers on the south side
of the house are so pretty.

Some of you may remember that I'm painting
my kitchen cabinets yellow.
So while I'm painting I also went
through my fabric stash and found these
two vintage prints.
So I started making new curtains.

Hopefully I will be revealing my new bright
kitchen in my next post.
The yellow certainly is bringing in the sunshine:)

Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

    1. I purchased that fabric about two years ago thinking that I would use it in a quilt. I'm so glad that I didn't now, because it is perfect for my kitchen.

    1. I love working in the garden and I just don't think that I could ever do city life, with no garden. I guess time with tell . . . it could be that one day I would be in a little apartment and unable to garden, I hope not.

    1. Hi Nancy, I planted that clematis three years ago and this is the first year that it has bloomed, or even started growing up the light pole. I was so happy seeing that it was finally going to grow. I guess it needed time to get it's roots developed . . . or maybe it's because I really don't know what I'm doing, LOL. Gardening is still a learning process for me :) Hopefully I'll have the kitchen done in a couple of days. Then I can start painting the porch rails. I used a cheap paint the first time and it isn't holding up, so I purchased some premium Behr paint at Home Depot today. Seems like there is always a job to do, LOL.

  7. That looks like a brand new tool Steve did a great job with it. All your plants look wonderful. They are thriving under your care. If they were in my yard they would likely be on their last leg.

    1. We put drip-lines in last year and it has been a huge help. I have them in the vegetable gardens and around the boards of the house. They are not automatic but all I have to do is set them each day and in two hours they go off by themselves. My plants look better and it saves so much time :)

  8. I have the same garden tool, but it is a bit rustier than yours! It's really useful especially with troublesome little weeds.
    Your Clematis is beautiful.

    1. It's a great tool and Steve made it like new again; I'm blessed with such a thoughtful man :) I planted those clematis three years ago and this is the first year that they have bloomed. I have chicken wire wrapped around my front porch light post in hopes that they will grow and climb it. Thank you for your sweet comments and for being such a kind blogging friend :)

    1. We had a long winter and a late Spring, but when it finally hit we had warmer weather than usual, so things took off and started blooming early. I love having flowers blooming all summer and cutting them for bouquets in the house. I've just planted a couple of packages of Zinnias, they are a favorite of mine and bloom until frost. It's so much fun watching the plants develop and grow through the season. Last year in August I remembered planting my tomato seed inside the house in February . . . they look like blades of thin grass when they first pop through the earth, then but August they are huge and covered in fruit. That is just amazing to me :)

  10. Beautiful photos, especially the clematis! Now that's some fancy work on the old garden tool! I have a similar one with a slightly chewed handle thanks to a sweet puppy from many years ago. I am looking forward to seeing your bright sunny kitchen!

Just finished painting the last cabinet today, so hopefully I will get the curtains up and get the room back in order to have photos for my next post. It always amazing me what a difference paint can make :) Thank you for stopping by to visit, I love getting to know my blogging sisters better . . . I wish you could stop by for lemonade and a chat on the front porch. I'm sure we would find lots to talk about :)

  12. Wow! Your gardens are looking lovely! I love peonies but they don't like to grow, or actually to flower here. They look healthy, but no flowers, so I'm a bit jealous!

    1. I had that same problem at our old house and it's only about three miles from where we live now. I'm not sure what the problem was, soil, where I planted them (too much shade or competition with other plants) . . . it's a mystery. I'm delighted that I finally have a plant grow in my yard, they are so pretty.

    1. You're so nice, thank you . . . I'm still painting and doing a little tweaking. I've made a sign for the kitchen, but i'm not happy with it . . . it needs a boarder, maybe checks and I want to make a new cover for my toaster. I love how Steve not only put a new handle on my garden tool but he ground off the rust and made it new again. I see many more years of using it. Thank you for being such a sweet blogging sister, it is always a joy to see that you have visited :)

    1. Thank you so much. I really like this fabric too. I purchased it a couple of years ago and had plans to use it in a quilt, but it seemed perfect of kitchen curtains, and it saved me going to town and trying to find something better. Not sure that I could, LOL . . . this fabric just fits my vintage kitchen and my new paint color :) Thank you so much for visiting and being such a sweet blogging sister.

    1. I think rick rack adds a little more vintage flare . . . it was very popular back in the 30's and 40's. I finished the kitchen and took photos last night, so a new post should be right around the corner. Thanks so much for stopping by, I know it's a busy time of the year for you. I always enjoy seeing that you've visited :)

    1. I am loving my garden and for some reason this year I have taken more time to watch things grow and bloom. I've spent more time looking at the petals on flowers and the way vines grow those little arms that reach out and cling to fences. It's a God thing . . . there is so much beauty all around us, but most of the time I don't really take the time to linger and enjoy. This has been an amazing season. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. I appreciate your blogging friendship :)

  23. Wow... your flowers are coming along wonderfully! My fave garden tool I think are my pruners. Seems like I always need them for something and invariably.. they are back in the garage and not with me! I do love a little hoe like you have, but lost mine and need to get another one.. I guess it's called a trowel. I had a larger hoe also that I loved, but it broke a few years ago. I love weeding and making the flower beds pretty, but usually just get down on my knees and use my hands to pull little weeds and smooth out the soil. Leaning over and raking or hoeing is hard on my back anymore, so don't do it so much. Your yard is just so gorgeous. I spent Memorial Day weekend replanting our back lawn which was all weeds when we moved in.. then got a little better the first summer, but then the weeds all took over again.. so this year we had a "yard party" and raked it all up and got rid of almost all of the weeds (very little grass left).... and reseeded... plus moved dirt and rocks.... so hopefully I'll get a post up soon of all that work! Now I just have to water it constantly for 2 weeks and hope the green starts showing! Hope you had a nice weekend. xoxoxo Marilyn

    1. Gardening is constant work, but so worth it. Weeds seem to have a way of growing twice as fast as plants. It's kind of like life . . . doesn't it seem like negative thoughts and things happen all around us twice as often as good things. Just watch the news! We just have to weed out the negative and hone in on the positive and help it grow. I'm looking forward to seeing photos of your backyard. Have a sweet day dear friend.
