Watercolored Quilt Finished.

Here's a quilt that I started in
January of 2017

*******So Today *******
I'm celebrating finally getting it done :)
*******

The reason it sat in a drawer for so long
is because I was trying to find more
of this blue floral print for the boarder.
Then I finally decided to use polka dot instead,
and get it done :)

This is the label before stitching it on.

After I purchased my fabric paints
I made this little chart.
It serves as a great reference.

First I drew my designs onto white paper.
Then put them on my light box and
penciled them onto my white fabric.
Next I took them to the sewing machine and
used black thread to free motion
them onto the fabric before painting.
Then I free motion quilted each block.

 Playing with the paint first
helped me to figure out how to make
them look like watercolors :)

This is one that I ended up not using.
I'm sure it will end up as a pillow
someday or a piece in a scrappy quilt.

I thought you might like to see some of
the blocks up close.

******* That's it!*******

I hope you enjoyed your visit.
and that you'll leave a comment,
so I know you were here :)

Keep Smiling!

*******
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

    1. Hi Mari, this is a quilt that I have been thinking about putting in the county fair next summer . . . then I get afraid to have any expert quilters look too closely at my work. Sometimes it's maybe better to not know what they may say :)

  10. What a beautiful quilt, Connie! I love all the watercolour style painted squares in different subjects. I especially love the two birds and the flowers on the middle left, but it's all lovely! Well done, indeed! Where will you use it, or is it for a gift?

    1. Hi Sandra, I haven't decided what I'll do with it, but I have been thinking about putting it in the county fair. Then again, I don't know if I can take having someone judge my work. Sometimes it's better to not be judged and just enjoy it for what it is.

    1. Thank you, while I was experimenting with the paints on the fabric I figured out that if I got the fabric sightly damp the paints blurred out and had more of a watercolor effect, otherwise they just looked painted. Just a tip for you to try.

  20. Golly Gee, this is so nice! I am still looking at every photo trying to find just the right words to express how much I love this quilt. I have just recently bought a free motion embroidery foot for my Bernina and have been playing around with it, which is so fun. You have definitely found your artistic niche with this quilt which combines so many of your wonderful talents!

    1. You are so sweet . . . and I am truly delighted that you like this quilt so much. You are going to have so much fun with your free motion foot. It creates room for your imagination to do so much. The first thing that I did with mine was I had a large rubber stamp of a vintage sewing machine. I stamped it on fabric and then free motioned over it to cover all the ink. After doing that I could see the possibilities and how easy it was to turn and curve around and do most anything you want with your stitches. I used that little project to make a bag to collect thread scraps before they went on the floor of my Art Barn :)

  27. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit Connie! YOU are so talented in so many ways! Your watercolors are beautiful. I was wondering how you "drew" them and then I see that you actually stitched them in black! Wow.... I'm so impressed. Each block is such a little work of art and they turned into a wonderful, warm quilt. I'm amazed at all you do! I've been wanting to try watercoloring on paper.. but now I want to try it on fabric... I love how it looks muted and the colors kind of have a glow to them. Thanks for the tip on wetting the fabric a little bit.. that's what they say to do on watercolor paper. I bet there are lots of ladies out there trying this! I think I may too. I always say that.. you always inspire me! Hugs.. Marilyn
