Quilt #3

Like I said before,
I'm on a roll. . .here's Quilt #3 of 2019.

Years ago when I first started blogging
I fell head over heels
for primary colors in decorating.

I've not done that much decorating with it,
but I have made many quilts
using primary colors.

What or who was it that inspired me?

Carol's cottage by the sea . . .
and her gorgeous blog . . .
Art & Sand.

Here are a few photos from her earlier posts
when her cottage was mainly decorated in . . .
that's right "primary colors".

There is such a pureness about
these colors . . .
something cheery, happy, fundamental,
like Dick & Jane readers and
happy days of childhood play.
Carol is not afraid of color,
nor is she afraid to pick up a paint brush
and change the color.
Her and her artist husband live in an
enchanting cottage by the sea.
If you don't know her, visit her here:

After that tour, it's easy to see
how I fell in love with this color system.
This is a small quilt 55" X 55".
It's a good size for a throw while watching TV or reading :)

Well, this is quilt #3 of 2019.
I hope you like it:)

Quilting helps prevent the winter time blues
and cabin fever, so onward and upward.

I'm ready to start another:)
What are you doing to ward off the wintertime blues?

Keep Smiling!

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)

  1. I agree, those primary color combinations are so happy looking and do have a retro feel. Your quilt is beautiful and your art barn is amazing! I've been doing lots of needle felting lately. I seem to go back and forth between that and knitting.

    1. I've never tried needle felting, but I've seen some lovely projects made from it :) It's nice to have a winter project to do when the outside temps are low and cold. Thanks for stopping by to visit:)

  3. Connie, I love all the beautiful color's through out your home. Not only does your quilting help prevent the winter blues, but your cheery home helps as well. I am adding flowers and plants to my home and I have already decorated my front porch with spring/summer wreaths, rugs, pillows. A little early I know, but I just can't stand a plain porch. I do have to bring it all in during rainy, windy, or snowy days which has been quite often lately, but not today it is sunny here. I love your quilt!!

    1. If decorating early brings spring weather a little sooner, I'm all for it:) At least you have sunshine in the heart as you fix up your pretty porch :)
      Here's to warm weather, girlfriend!

  4. Wow! Another quilt! There's no stopping you, Connie! I agree with you about primary colours, there's something happy and joyful about them. Yes, happy days of childhood play! That quilt is a perfect TV evening companion! Now I'm going to pop in on Carol!
We definitely need to ward off those winter blues. Working with colour is one of the best ways. I do the same and have nearly finished my latest project. It will be on my next blog entry before the end of the month!
    Have a wonderful weekend, Connie!

    1. It's been nice having time to sew . . . I wish hubby was feeling better so that there would be more other things to do . . . but I love sewing, so I've just been making my sewing machine hum, LOL.

  7. You are on a roll with making quilts aren’t you? I sure enjoyed that blog tour. I like the way she decorates with color. I wish I had the energy and the imagination to do the same. Although my husband would never go for it. He likes woodtones and a more traditional look. What do you do with all of the quilts you make? Do you decorate with them, use them on the beds, give them away, or do you sell them? Just curious. Stay warm outside because, baby it’s cold outside isn’t it? Blessings, Betsy

    1. I do everything you mentioned except selling them, that I don't do. January seems to be flying by pretty fast and February is the shortest month . . . then we can actually start thinking about warm sunny days and getting outside more. It won't be long :) Thanks for visiting.

  9. That quilt REALLY reminds me of Carol's cottage, too. She is just a lovely person and I have followed her blog for years and always loved her unabashed use of pure, bright primary colors. It always looks like it would be fun to visit there. xo Diana

  15. Hi Connie, What!! Another quilt! Did I read that right! I love it. Enjoyed Art and Sands tour and never thought about primary colors being bright and cheery but they sure are. How large were your triangles or squares? I noticed your big cotton batting roll on top of a table. Do you cut it from there? Wondering if putting mine on my kitchen table would work. So lovely. Nancy

    1. Having it on the table like that, I am able to measure it as I roll it out. Then I put a measuring stick across it and make a mark and cut. It works great for me. Can you believe three quilts already? Then again you are the one who said, "we have a huge roll of batting to use up". Mine will not last me my whole life but maybe two years :) Those were 10 inch squares that I cut across into triangles.
      Happy quilting, sweet friend :)

    1. I'm excited for you starting your first quilt. My advice is don't make one that is too complicated, because you want the process to be enjoyable. You will learn a lot with your first one and then you'll learn a little more with each one after that. I never thought that I would enjoy quilting, but that ole quilting bug bit me and i've never been the same since. I've only been quilting for around 6 years now and I love it. I wish the same for you :)

  21. I can see how you got your inspiration from Carols home, she does have a knack of using color in her decorating. Love your hexagon flowers to embellish the top of the quilt! Great size for a throw quilt, and to add color to your chair :) Love how you did the colorful binding on it too!

  24. Wow you really ARE on a roll Connie! This Quilt #3 is so pretty! I've never quite been a "primary color" person, but do love how Carol decorated her sea cottage in those colors. I do love red... and I love blue... when combined with pink or rose.. and red and white together, or reds and pinks. I'm starting to feel an urge to start another quilt, after that huge project I did last summer! This one will be easier and I"m going to try the quilt as you go. I found a fairly simple one on YouTube. Want to use my pinks and roses, whites, creams, etc. (from strips and pieces I've saved for 40 years)!!! One of these days I'll get out the sewing machine. It's sadly sitting on the floor right now.... waiting for me........ hugs.. Marilyn

I have been downsizing, dejunking and doing a ton of reading, and some chalk painting of furniture to stave off the winter doldrums.
