Chasing Your Tail

Do you ever feel like you are

chasing your tail

around and around

and never getting anywhere?

That's what spring feels like

around here . . .

there are so many things to do,

from getting

gardens ready to plant,

starting seeds,

fixing broken fixtures . . .

the list goes on and on

and we all have a

"Spring List",

right?

Then there are the

things that are fun to do . . .

Like picking rhubarb

and making sauce.

Pots for sterilizing jars,

making sauce

and water bathing the filled jars.

This was my helper for

the day . . .

doesn't it look like

she's working hard :)

I had a little extra sauce,

oh so good on ice cream :)

That's a bit of pie crust

stuck in the top.

Well, that's my post.

I hope that you are all

checking things off your

to do list and that it will

soon be time for the fun things.

God bless you all,

Your blogging sister,

Connie :)

Check out the first comment from

Happy One . . . she caught me in a

senior moment.

After revising this, I'm on my way

to find my sharpie and fix the date, LOL

  2. Wow you've been busy. That rhubarb sauce looks so good. I have things that need to get done but no ambition to do them

    1. I can't say that I am motivated by ambition, just a drive in me to get to a place where the hard stuff is done for the season.

  3. I love rhubarb! I used to just pick it and eat it when I was a kid. Not sure how since now it seems SO tart!

  4. Lots of work! But worth it in the end.
I love rhubarb. Our plant died and I miss it. We need to work on getting another one.

    1. Get one, they are the easiest of all plants to grow.

  6. We have to look out for one another, don't we? Everything looks so good...especially that bowl of dessert! Sweet hugs!

  7. Wow! You do garden in a big way. I'm sure you wouldn't be able to do everything you do without the help of dear Beulah (BTW is Butchy still doing well?)

    1. Thanks for asking, he was quite sick last week, I'm not sure what was wrong with him. He really had me scared, he's getting old, but he snapped out of it and he's just perky and doing fine. He's 11 years old and has diabetes, I give him insulin twice a day, so I do get concerned when he's not feeling good.

  8. Your rhubarb sauce looks so yummy! I don't think you will get bored for sure. Beulah is growing so big. I am sure she will be a good garden helper. Nancy

    1. Oh she loves to dig in the dirt and to play in the mud. Lots of help in the garden, LOL, then it's bath time, but she likes baths too.

  9. We have rhubarb growing too, but I've never made sauce with it. We like cooked rhubarb for breakfast, sometimes with cereal or sometimes with a dollop of yoghurt. Rhubarb desserts are yummy too.

  10. Hi Connie, oh my seeing rhubarb brought back some happy memories, my aunts farm grew alot of it and my cousins and I would snack on it while we were making mudpies. I know only too we'll about the spring list....fun for all and all for fun. Your garden is quite large, lots of work to keep you super busy , and your pet son is working tirelessly to help you. There's something so calming about gardening. Stay well my friend. Lisa @ Sweet Tea N' Salty Air

  11. Connie, I think you need a handyman/gardener to help you with your huge garden! Rhubarb is such a versatile thing, and I have never made sauce with it, so will be trying it.

    1. Working in the garden is my summer exercise program. It helps me get rid of the pounds that I put on during the winter when I don't get out much, at least for exercise :) The fresh vegetables are a joy as well.

    1. Thank you so much . . . I'm just a simple old lady that likes to keep moving. I'm very blessed with a healthy body, it may not be the prettiest, but I'll take function over beauty any day :)

  13. Oh, I know well what you're talking about, Connie. Since I moved to the mountains, I've been doing so much work outside and inside, and there's always something to do. Your canned rhubarb is wonderful. The sauce on your ice cream looks Yummy! Happy month of May, Connie. It's always a pleasure to come and visit you. : )

  14. After making rhubarb sauce this morning, I am sitting down reading blogs, and see that you have done the same thing! Yes, spring is a busy time in the garden. And then there's dealing with all the lovely produce! We don't have strawberries yet, but there are plenty of blooms that will hopefully turn into ripe juicy fruit. Enjoy your day, dear Connie.

  15. Oh Connie yes! running in circles that's for sure! With even a small yard, there seems to be so much to do! and we don't even have a veggie garden! Yikes.. yours is so big. Wish you COULD find a teen or some strapping young man to help you with your garden and doing the heavy stuff. That's what I need but can't find one around here!!!! I am going to maybe check at the high school. seems like teens don't want to or need to work anymore. That rhubarb sauce looks wonderful. I think I still have some frozen chopped rhubarb in my freezer from 5 years ago! One of our rentals had tons of it and I would pick it, chop it and freeze it and then never use it! Thus.. no rhubarb plants here! I sure wish I had strawberries though. You take care and don't overdo with all those bags of compost/manure/fertilizer? in your garden. Wish Beulah could help!!! xoxoxo Marilyn

    1. Oh, Beulah helps by digging and getting muddy, she also loves running under the sprinkler. I'm thinking about buying her a kiddy pool :)

  16. Hi Connie! Do you have a recipe to share for rhubarb sauce? I know we would enjoy it. I brought some rhubarb from our friends farm in Washington that I got my rhubarb starts for our last house from. I know I won't get anything this year, but next year hopefully it will begin to grow. I love making pies for Dennis.
Love your sweet little puppy. We're still missing Chloe something awful but know that she is pain-free now. We have considered another rescue but it will be awhile, if ever.
    Take care dear friend.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

  17. Oh yum, now that does sound delicious. Yes I am still healing from my surgery, I have more want to do things but my foot tells me otherwise and I have to stop and rest it, won't be able to get done all that I would like but I am telling myself to just let it go and live each day at a time.
Your little helper looks a lot like mine, always laying right where I need to move around :)

    1. She loves to be right beside me and that has caused me to step on her toes a few times. I hate when that happens. She's a sweetheart. You are wise to take it easy, healing well and not rushing it is the best thing you can do. We're not as young as we used to me . . . a least I sure am not :)

  20. All your busyness always astounds me and inspires me, too! What are you going to be growing in that huge garden this year? Your rhubarb sauce looks so good. I have just one rhubarb plant but it's nice and big now, so time for me to start harvesting it.

  21. Hi Connie, Wow, I admire you putting up the rhubarb! Talk about something that’s delicious. I also admire you getting the garden underway. I think you are located in a place over in Eastern Washington that is just about perfect for summer vegetable gardening. It looks like you are getting off to a great start. Hope you’ll keep us posted on your progress through the summer. Take care and be well! John
