Tweaking My Pick-Up Camper

Tweaking the camper, come on in!

 LED light over the bed.

Electric Fan

Portable DVD Player

(Steve won this at a company

Christmas party one year and

we never really used it)

All powered by this baby.

(it can be charged at home, in the

truck while driving, or

by a solar panel)

Then a dear friend gifted me

with a Walmart gift card,

and I bought this with it.

I built this over the wheel well.

You can't see it very well,

but I added a slot above it . . .

Where I can slide this shelf in when needed.

The box is great for the lantern, paper plates,

cups and bowls and a roll of paper towels.

I can also turn it the other way,

and create a table that comes

nearly to the bed, good for

eating or playing cards.

The porta-potty is tucked under

this little desk

and inside is . . .

Toiletries and first aid.

I'll fill the cupboard with

dry goods just before a trip,

and the little drawer is a great place . . .

 for eating utensils.

Hanging on the outside by the

tailgate are my cooking utensils.

Beside the bed is the tackle box

with a tissue box handy on top

and under the bed are two bids,

dish pads, fishing poles

and my wiener fork.

There are two stacked runner rugs inside

for comfortable sleeping for the dogs

and easy shake out cleaning.

Come on, let's go camping!

 Thanks for visiting . . .

and please leave a comment.

Your blogging sister,

Connie:)

    1. Well, I've been looking at pickup shells on Pinterest to see how people are fixing them up, but none of them were designed with a girly woman in mind. I wanted to be comfortable and have a bit of charm at the same time, LOL.

  6. Wonderful how you have come up with all these creative ideas to make it comfortable and meet your needs. Hope you can try it out soon. You should take your guitar to sing around the campfire. Nancy.

    1. I haven't played much in the last few years, but just last week I got it down and dusted it off and started practicing. These old arthritic fingers need more practice before I play again in public, LOL

    1. Thank you so much! I didn't want a camper that I had to winterize and have to do all the hooking up to power and water and sewer . . . I wanted something easy and I think this will fit the bill.

    1. I just thought about how I don't do anything anymore and I needed to get out and enjoy some of things that we enjoyed doing together. Breathe a little fresh lake air or take a hike through the woods. Especially before flue season, icy roads and winter and we're all cooped up again.

  13. Absolutely fantastic Connie - you have certainly made a very comfortable camper for sure- I use to drive a Ford F100 forty years ago and I never imagined it could be decked out like you have done. Best Wishes. KEV.

    1. I'm hoping that it provides me with many restful short trips. Time to get out with friends and family and enjoy nature. Of course with my property I have plenty of gardening to do and that is enjoying nature, but not the same . . . gardens require work, the forest does not :)

  15. Those jackery battery packs are fantastic aren't they? Oh, how I wish we were still in Spokane and could go on some camping adventures together. I adore how you've fixed up your truck to be the perfect glamping spot for you. Just last night Dennis laid down in the back of our truck and said it would be plenty big for us to camp in. He's right! We would have to do some things different because we would need a double bed, but I've seen that on utube. You have definitely tweaked our interest in possibly doing something like this. I sure hope you find some interested campers Connie. Your space is beautiful.

    1. I'm excited because all the winterizing and hooking up that you have to do with a trailer just overwhelms me. With this it's just go and come home, no pulling, backing up a trailer, caring for pipes and gas-lines. I needed something simple and stress free. It will be tight and I will have to shower at campground showers, but to me that's a small price for the limitation of stress.

    1. I purchased it on Amazon and you can read about it there. I have the ability to charge it at home before leaving so that I have a full charge when leaving home. Then I can charge it from the truck dash while traveling or by a solar panel if I'm camped. It's a pretty nice system. I plan on having it charge it up in the house this winter so if the power goes off for a while I'll still be able to stay warm. I could just cuddle up in my chair with an electric blanket until the power is back on.

    1. Thanks, I think we'll be very comfortable in it. Mostly it's just for sleeping because when I'm camping I like to be outdoors, but if it rains it'll be nice and cozy inside with some of the comforts of home.

  20. Oh wow Connie, it looks like you have it all covered and are ready to get out there, your setup looks great, and I am sure the dogs would enjoy it too! You are so creative and handy with making things!! Hope you can get out there soon and enjoy it!

  23. I am so excited about your camping set up. I'm studying it like there will be a test at the end! I would love to do something like this but the back seat of my Jeep doesn't lay real flat. I keep going and looking at it though! Love the generator and how you've used every cubby and spot for the things you'll need. How smart to put down 2 rugs too. I love it! I'm ready to GO!!! And yes....you've made sure it is pretty too!

    1. I'm so glad you like it. I just wanted something simple and I'm too old for tent camping and besides that I don't feel like a tent is as safe as this. I think it'll give me several years of enjoyment as long as I am able to get up in the back of it. I've been blessed with very good health all my life hopefully that lasts a long time.

    1. I think the battery pack will be great. If the weather is hot I can have a fan going at night, or if it starts to rain I can curl up inside with a light on and a good book to read, or even play on the computer or watch a DVD until the rain stops.

  27. Oh Connie dear friend! I missed this post! It went into my spam folder and I just today looking at my spam folder.. usually not much goes into there! I LOVE LOVE LOVE your glamping camper! It is so so cozy and I love the shelf and table over the potty.. and that board that swings out. You have thought of using every bit of space! How did you get your curtains up? I see little knobs with rope over them? Our Van has all headliner so I can't see where the metal is to put hooks, which I really want to do. The Van has blinds on the smaller windows, but the double doors on the side don't, and it's hard to try to string a rope across there to hang curtains on! I did it though, but hubby didn't like it.. but worked and gave us privacy. On the back two doors, I put velcro around the windows and then made the curtain a square with velcro on it, so can just hook it on.. but I think after 2 years of it sitting and with all the heat that velcro has probably melted off! I'll write more via email! Since you wrote this on August 16th, I wonder if you've been able to get out in the woods yet!! xoxo Marilyn
