Finished Quilt and Slipcovers

I finished them both 😊😊.

Thanks for stopping by . . .

There are a lot of photos

in this post, but hopefully it

will be an encouragement to

any of you that might be thinking

about trying these projects at home.

I'll start with photos  of

the finished quilt.

This is a "Quilt As You Go"

made with scraps from many

previous quilts.

The Back.

And the final touch . . .

The Blinding :)

Now on to the chair.

I have been looking at slipcovers

on-line, just because they are not

my favorite project.

Although; I do know that if you

make them yourself, you get a much

better fit.

Those one size fits all items are

a joke in slipcovers as well

as clothes.

Here it is done, except for

the cushion and the cushion was

my biggest fear.

When I was looking on-line the

prices jumped from $50 to $150

if the chair had "T" cushions.

That sent me a signal that they would

be very difficult to make.

It was a myth  . . . as most fears are.

I looked at how the chair was upholstered

and made my pattern accordingly

and it went together just fine.

Oh, how many times have we let

"FEAR"

get in our way?

To make the rounded arms fit

snugly I made ties under each one.

First I tried elastic but it didn't

fit well.

After completing the chair,

I decided to cover the ottoman, too.

I had another tarp, so why not.

All I had to do was take it

from the package and give it a good wash.

This is a very important step!

They will shrink and you want that

to happen before making any project.

Thank you for stopping by . . .

please leave a comment,

I love reading them.

If I would have bought these two slipcovers

because of the  "T" cushion I would

have spent about $180 plus tax and shipping.

Instead the two tarps were about $35.

Sweet, Right !

😊😊😊

God bless you all

and have a wonderful weekend.

Your blogging sister,

Connie :)

    1. You are a darling, thank you. Slipcovers are not my favorite projects, but they are certainly worth the effort once done.

  3. The quilt is just lovely! And wow, that slipcover turned out beautifully! So shabby chic! Nice job, Connie! You did it! And thanks for the message at the end. Good advice!

    1. I know . . . I need to take my own advice in the matter of fear, more often. I have let too many things slip past me because of fear. There's a song we sing in church that goes, "I am no longer a slave to fear, I am a child of God" it's good to remember that especially in these troubled times.

  4. Both are great, however having had the job of having to cover chairs before - your slipcover is magic!!! What a fantastic job and what a fabulous idea using the canvas drop sheets!!! I must see if we have those available here in Australia as they would be great for a couple of outdoor chairs that need new covers!!

    1. Go to your home supply or hardware store and look for them in the paint department :) Remember to wash them first and let them do their shrinking before you start your project.

  5. Is there any project you can't master? Both the slipcovers and the quilt turned out so lovely!! As a person who can't sew ( in spite of having taken sewing classes) I can't imagine where I'd start on anything that complicated.
The red quilt is especially a favourite since I love red. We used to have red wall-to-wall carpet in the bedroom. We only changed it to wood after many years.

    1. You're so sweet, in one of the bedrooms I have two twin beds with white store bought quilts on them and solid red throws folded at the foot that I bought a long time ago for something else. Then I had one red and white quilt that I spread on top of the red one. I liked it so much that I made this one for the other twin bed. It gives them a nice pulled together look, without being totally matchy matchy.

  6. Two great projects beautifully finished. Your quilt is just perfect for February's cold weather, red just radiates warmth and comfort. I've never had courage to attempt slipcovers but would love to take a class sometime after sending back a "small" armchair slipcover that would have fit a loveseat. You did a beautiful job with yours.

    1. That's exactly what I was talking about. When you order them online they make them quite large so that they'll fit many chairs but they're just sloppy. Every time you get in and out of them you have to straighten up the wrinkles. If you make them yourself you can fit them much better to your chair and then you don't have that wrinkle problem. If you lived closer I'd help you out and show you how to do it.

  7. Oh Connie, I think maybe this quilt is my favorite of all you have made. Well, I know I loved them all, but this one is soooo pretty. You are amazing! That chair looks beautiful and so comfortable. Looks like it fits snug and perfect and would not wrinkle easily like those bought covers. We were supposed to be getting a new couch and chair but Poppy has decided we should keep our big old (once beautiful) leather set. :( I am trying to make covers for the seats and arms. What a job.

    1. I've been thinking the same thing for my sofa. It still looks nice but I'd like to lighten it up. I do that now by putting a quilt on the back of it which gives it a more farmhouse or country look. So I thought if I made a half slipcover, everything but the back and then change the back with different colored quilts through out the year. . . Anyway at the moment it's just a thought going through my head I haven't quite got it figured out yet but maybe another drop cloth to match the chair then I could put any color quilt at the back.
Thank you so much for your comment about the quilt I'm so glad you like it.

  10. Holy moly, you are incredible! Of course I knew you make beautiful quilts, but slipcovers, too?! They look more beautiful than anything you could ever find in a store. What a perfect, custom fit. I wish I had even just half your talent and creativity!

  12. Hi Connie: Once again, I'm amazed by your talent with a sewing machine, fabric of any sort and thread. I looked closly at all of those fabrics in the quilt and I have to say my favorites are the cows and the ducks with the umbrellas! I like the happy polka dots too. I like them all, but those are my favorites. It's such a happy quilt and I think we all need that after this winter.
And that slipcover! My goodness gracious! It looks like a million dollars along with the ottoman. I need you to come teach me everything you know! Ha!
I like that song too. I must confess, many times throughout my life and especially during these covid time, I've let fear get the best of me. God says not to fear. He cares for us and knows what is best. But I lay my fears at the cross and pick them up over and over again.
Take care my dear friend and stay warm and safe.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy

    1. You're so kind, but you know we're all born with special gifts and talents and mine has always been creating things I don't really feel like they're anything to be prideful about but more to be thankful about. The creativeness that's in me is a gift that's brought me much pleasure and much happiness through my life.

That chair gets a big WOW. You did a fantastic job. It looks like it was professionally done. Can't beat the price either. Being made from the drop cloths it should be very durable as well.

  15. You did a beautiful job on both of your projects! Thanks for the words of encouragement too. Sometimes the fear of making a mistake does get in our way of completing a task, doesn't it?!
I have a sweet red quilt that my grandma made for me nearly 40 years ago, and there is something so cheerful about a red quilt!
Have a wonderful weekend, and I can't wait to see what you get up to next :)

  16. You have amazing talent Connie. I would love to create a quilt like that, but I honestly wouldn't know where to start, and the thought of slipcovers ... well, I won't go there!

  18. Hi Connie, you have been a workhorse lately! and like everyone else has said, the quilt is so so pretty. I too love all the reds, and making a strip quilt with scraps from other projects is fun. That is what I made my son 3 years ago and he absolutely LOVED it! Mine wasn't quilt as you go, but I have always wanted to try one. Maybe this year will be the year.... hee hee. The back of the quilt is also beautiful. Your chair turned out beautifully.. and the matching ottoman too... what a seamstress you are! I would love to have some sewing bee days with you! I can get so much more done when I'm sharing the time with a like minded soul. When you talked about your couch, I wonder if the dropcloth can be dyed at all... could dye it a different color just for fun, like maybe aqua blue or something.. just a thought that ran through my head! I would of course, dye mine pink! Have a wonderful weekend. It is like spring here (Sataurday) and 60 degrees with sun and no wind. I've been out once already, and this is the kind of day I feel like going for a drive or something. Hugs to you.. Marilyn

    1. The only problem that I find with dying fabric is that sometimes it just doesn't stop bleeding and fading. I thought about dying it and making it look more like denim but I was afraid the color might bleed through if anything damp touched them and I don't want to ruin the chair that's under it because I still like it too.

  20. Hi Connie, I love your quilt. I have yet to try the quilt as you go method. Your slipcovered chair and ottoman turned out very nice. Looks professional. I have two reasons why I don't try more things, three really! I don't have the energy or the patience and I like being shown how to do something. No excuse though. Looking forward to the next project you tackle! Nancy

I am so sorry about your energy level and think about it all the time. Ever since a few years ago when you were diagnosed with Lyme disease it seems like your energy level is just never come back to normal. That must be so hard. You are in my prayers dear friend.

  21. Oh my your quilt is beautiful, such pretty fabrics, you really went to work on that, it would have taken me months :) Your back even looks terrific!
Wow you did a fantastic job on your chair too and wow the money you saved. I like the ties in the front, pretty and useful :)
Yes I do believe that we let fear of trying something new keep us from doing a lot of things.

  24. Dear Connie: The quilt is just beautiful. I love the color red and you sure put it to perfect use. Your chair looks so professionally done that I never would have guessed you made it yourself. Your definition of "fear" is spot on and I have a lot of it! Maybe someday I will get brave enough to tackle a project that big..Happy Tuesday and thank you so much for your visit..xxoJudy
