Taking in the joys of the season
before the snow flies :)
I love this time of the year,
but it never lasts as long
as I'd wish.
Already our days are growing
shorter and our nights
are growing colder.
~~~🍎🍏🌻🍏🍎~~~
I've decided to enjoy
everyday and every minute.
For tomorrow they will only
be a memory.
This is the end of my
yellow crookneck squash.
I grated the skin and the outside
flesh and then used one
of my zucchini bread recipes.
In stead of vanilla extract
I used orange and added walnuts.
The loaves came out so golden
and simply beautiful.
Give it a try :)
You will not be disappointed.
I also made another batch
of applesauce.
This time using Golden Delicious.
Sunday a friend from church
asked me to join her
on a drive to a farm
that was celebrating 60 years
of family farming.
It was such a nice afternoon.
A beautiful drive,
a chance to visit with a friend,
and a lovely experience.
We even were given a box of apples
to either take home or make
our own jug of apple cider.
Here's my cider and a few
extra apples that I brought home :)
What a fun experience.
This sweet young lady helped
us make our cider and agreed
to having her photo taken.
Isn't she beautiful,
inside and out . . .
such a sweetie pie. 🍎🍏
That's my post . . .
I just want to encourage you
to get outside while the
weather is nice.
~~~🍎🍏🌻🍏🍎~~~
Life is a gift . . .
enjoy it!!!!
God bless you all.

Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
Your yummy recipes sound wonderful and I love a country drive. What a great place to visit. I may drive out to a farm this week too. The sunflower farm is open right now! Enjoy your afternoon my friend!
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by to visit. It is always nice seeing your sweet profile picture pop up and reading your thoughtful comments. Have a lovely week dear friend.
DeleteYou are so right - Fall never seems to last long enough. We’re just getting Fall temps this week after weeks of 90 degrees. So it begins for us.
ReplyDeleteYour squash bread sounds amazing. I bet that fresh apple cider was delicious.
After pressing my apples and filling my jug there was enough left over for a fresh glass. I have never had apple cider fresh off the press before. Like everything that is that amazingly fresh from the farm it was super delicious. I'll be enjoying glass full everyday until it's gone.
DeleteThanks for stopping by and do get out and enjoy your pretty weather.
Truly, life is a wonderful gift to all of us. I'm glad you are making the most of the season, and I love what you did with the squash. What a great idea :)
ReplyDeleteI've decided to try the same recipe only using grated butternut squash and adding pumpkin pie spice. I'm sure it'll be very tasty too. I love eating seasonal fresh foods.
DeleteWhat a lovely day out you had in the country gathering supplies. And you have been busy as a ber in the kitchen too. You are certainly right to make the most of the good weather.
ReplyDeleteI love the change in seasons. Now you'll be just starting your spring and summer weather. I imagine that means lots of camping and fun adventures for you and your husband. Enjoy!
DeleteToday I'm looking out on a grey day filled with rain, but we welcome it after the long and parched summer. In between rain showers I try to walk and enjoy the lovely fresh air. You are so right about needing to take advantage of these days while we can.
ReplyDeleteIt's a gray day here today and I'm not feeling my best, but enjoying it just the same. All wrapped up in a quilt with a scented candle burning and my puppy dogs to keep me company. Life is good!
DeleteFall is such a wonderful season. The trees are so lovely, there's such an abundance of fruit and vegetables.
ReplyDeleteYour loaves of zucchini/orange/walnut bread look so delicious. I baked today too. I made Gingersnaps to fill the empty cookie tin. I tried a new recipe and it's a keeper. Granny Marigold
Oh you are talking my language, I absolutely love Ginger snaps! If I lived closer I'd be knocking on your door with some apple cinnamon tea.
DeleteI loved reading your post Connie, thank you for sharing all your beautiful photos. xx
ReplyDeleteAnd thank you for dropping by and for your sweet comment.
DeleteOh yes, this is a great time of year! I'm out every morning in it. :)
ReplyDeleteThe bread looks so good. I will try the orange and walnuts!!
Enjoyed all your beautiful pictures.
Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed my photos because I always enjoy yours from your morning walks. You live in such a beautiful area.
DeleteWe've been enjoying a few beautiful day, but now it is raining and the cold is coming.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you had such a fun day!
Thank you, I had a lovely day. Sounds like you better get out your hats and mittens Winter is coming, Burrrrrr!
DeleteWhat a fun day! I would love to try my hand at making cider... I love it. We were planning to go to one of our local pumpkin patches (we have two) but both of their Facebook pages say that they don't have anymore pumpkins. What?? I wanted to try my hand at canning pumpkin but unless I can find another source I guess that will have to wait until next year. :-(
ReplyDeleteOh, my free stand out by the road was filled with squash and pumpkins this morning. I looked out and there might be two left. Wish you were close enough to drive over and get them :)
DeleteYes we need to get out and enjoy the wonderful weather of Autumn which is gone way too quickly. Sounds like you had a lovely day out too! Apple Cider sure does sound good, bet it went great with your bread!
ReplyDeleteActually I already had my bread in the freezer by the time I made the cider, but they do sound like they'd go wonderful together. This time of the year I crave breads and stews and soups and pies oh my I guess I just love food but comfort foods are my favorite and after all the fresh vegetables and salads this summer good hot comfort food just sounds marvelous.
DeleteIsn't it fun to go visit the farms? We are lucky to have a few nearby and I love visiting them in the summer and fall. Our weather here in northeast IL has been gorgeous so far, this fall. So it's easy for me to want to be outside. I'm soaking up as much of the nice weather outdoors as I can, because winter is right around the corner and then we'll have way too much time to be stuck inside.
ReplyDeleteYour bread looks delicious! Bet a slice is wonderful with coffee or tea.
I do miss all the color of a Midwest Autumn. We have some color here but all the trees in our area were trees that were man planted; we live in the high desert of Washington State. There is color change in the sagebrush and in the spring if we get enough rain the desert is full of little yellow and purple blooms. Of course we do have a lot of orchards and vineyards and our state is pretty famous for its fruit and it's wines.
DeleteEach season brings new and yummy outdoor experiences. Glad you had a yummy time.
ReplyDeleteThank you, each season brings bountiful blessings all we have to do is look around us. Sometimes life gets so busy that we forget to do that. I can just imagine the beautiful color that you're enjoying in the Colorado mountains.
DeleteHi Connie- Pleased to see and hear you've had such a great time at the Farm- that Apple Cider looks very delicious. Were in Spring now- a few rainy days- yesterday was hot (28Deg C)- today was milder though I think Summer is going to be pretty hot. Best Wishes to you. KEV.
ReplyDeleteThanks for stopping by to say "hi". While we are wrapping up in sweaters and coats, you'll be in tee shirts and short pants. Each season and day of life is a gift to be enjoyed.
DeleteWhat a wonderful day! I agree that this time passes quickly. It is beautiful but brief. Thank you for taking us along with you!
ReplyDeleteWish you could have been here in person :)
DeleteWhat a wonderful day for you and your friend. That young girl really is beautiful. She looks like the picture of health and happiness. I am enjoying fall this year and I, too, wish it lasted longer. Soon the snow will fly here and I am never ready for that. Happy Wednesday-xo Diana
ReplyDeleteHello dear friend, you have been missed from the blogging world. It is wonderful to see your sweet profile picture pop up in my comments. Yes, winter is coming, but there is beauty in that as well. Stay warm and we'll. God bless you and your husband.
DeleteHello Dear Connie! I'm always so happy to see your post pop up. Fall here in Nebraska has been glorious this year but I sure do miss our visits every year to the orchards in Greenbluff, WA. I always bought a big box of apples and made applesauce and pie filling every fall. Our move into the apartment is almost complete and we should close on the house next week. Then, we can begin searching for a condo close by Mom. We know the complex we want to be in. It's five minutes to Mom and about 7 minutes to our daughter & family. Perfect.
ReplyDeleteTake care my friend and enjoy before the winter winds come roaring across the pass!
Blessings,
Betsy
Betsy, I am surprised that you even have time to visit my blog. I know that your life is very hectic right now. God bless your new home, may it be a safe haven and a good place to rest while in search of your condo. Who knows the Lord may come sooner than we know and give you an even better home than any condo you could ever dream of. Hallelujah!
DeleteHi Connie! You have inspired me to get out and enjoy this Fall weather more! We finally had rain last week.. one night of a heavy rain.. was wonderful! I almost did a rain dance! Now there are more s unny days, but much cooler.. and the freezing night temps have hit now. I'm glad.. as I do enjoy the Fall smells and colors. Your going to that produce farm made me want to find one here! There is a "pumpkin patch" about 20 miles from me and I might just go this weekend! You inspired me! I wish they did have apples as would love to make applesauce too. The produce stands are all closed around here now. And your squash bread... oh YUM that sounds good with orange and walnuts. I pulled up my tiny "crop" and carrots and shredded enough for one loaf of carrot bread or cake! Only had a few but was fun watching them grow. And the apple cider.. wow. I wish I could find a place who made it. I've made fresh juice with apples as I have a big juicer... but the cider sounds heavenly.. how fun to make your own! I'm so glad you had a friend to enjoy the day with! I'm loving any gray days we have here.. it too makes me want to bake! I'm thinking some eggnog pie sounds really good, with a crushed pecan crust! Why does Fall make us want to eat sweets??? Hugs.. Marilyn
ReplyDeleteI think the cool weather and the season produce makes us hungry for comfort foods. I always think of breads, stews, soups and pies this time of the year.
DeleteOh Connie, you really know how to have a fun day! Isn't Fall beautiful! Never seen so many boxes of pretty apples and vegetables. Your apple cider looks delicious!
ReplyDeleteIt was a fun day and seeing the process and getting involved with pressing the apples and making cider was a new experience for me. Lots of fun!
DeleteLooks like such a fun day out, fancy making your own cider! I've never heard of crookneck squash before, but the loaves look delicious!
ReplyDeleteJillxo
It turned into a lovely adventure and making cider was the cherry on top :)
DeleteBeautiful
ReplyDeleteWhat a perfect way to spend a fall day, Connie. The young lady is, indeed, beautiful. A natural beauty. xo
ReplyDeleteHi Connie, what a lovely day you've had. Your breads look amazing. I can always be sure to find something baked or sewn at the Crafty Home Cottage! Lisa @ Sweet Tea N' Salty Air
