Sewing Extension On The Cheap

Latest Project

Spending . . .

Pennies instead of Dollars

If you sew, you may have seen

these wonderful extensions

that you can purchase to

custom fit your sewing machine.

One of my best friends just

purchased one for around $300.

Those of you that know me

also know that I'm cheap.

Therefore; my thought was

why can't I build my own?

Not only did I not buy lumber

(all came from Steve's old scrape pile)

this wood was saved from an

old unwanted bookshelf.

After I made it,

I covered it with Pioneer Woman

brand contact paper.

That was my only cost in

this project.

 $6.97 at Walmart

I have never done a

contact paper project

without a gummed up mess.

I guess it's not my favorite

thing to work with, but it does

have some very good functions.

In this case it's nice and smooth

so that the fabric glides easily over it.

"And it's pretty" ๐Ÿ˜Š

I hope this inspires you to

try a new project.

Especially if it saves

you some money :)

~~~๐ŸŒผ๐Ÿ€๐ŸŒผ~~~
Have a wonderful week
and remember to put
God first.
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
  1. Connie, I'm always impressed by your ability to make things...and they turn out looking great...and, save money too. Your sewing extension is the latest in your creations and it looks so cheery. Just walking into your sewing room must be a joy ๐Ÿ’—๐Ÿ’—
    ( I don't think I've ever applied that adhesive paper without at least one crease forming.)
  2. You are so sweet, thank you. Contact paper is not easy to work with, but does have some great uses. I like lining my kitchen drawer with it, because it's so easy to clean.
  3. I really love your beautiful sewing machine extension. You are amazing at building all of the things that you want around the house. Steves scrap pile must be huge! You always find out exactly what you need in it don't you? I always make a mess of contact paper, but you did great! I don't see any creases at all.
    Thanks for coming over to visit my blog, I always enjoy your visits with me.
    Blessings and hugs,
    Betsy
    1. I can hardly believe all the things that I've made from Steve's scrap pile in the last four years. Whatever I need seems to be right there. Somebody is looking over me; I think our Lord has a sweet sense of humor.
  5. I love thrifty alternatives to expensive products. This was genius and it looks to me like your version is much bigger than the expensive one. It looks really nice with the Pioneer Woman contact paper on it. I've always love the look of red and white checks.
  9. You create wonderful things, Connie. Saving pennies is important these days as inflation continues to rise. I'm thinking it would be great to use the lines on the gingham paper to guide fabric.
  17. You are so creatively crafty, Connie! I love the way you saw a need, and found a way to make it yourself! That is just amazing! I've often thought it would be nice to have an extension when sewing. You will have so much fun with your new creation! The contact paper looks wonderful on it too - adds such a cheery touch!
  18. Connie, your sewing table extension is just amazing! So many times when I need something, I don't even think of making it myself, unless of course it's with fabric (or paper!). I do love woodworking and wish I would take the time to do more of it. I would love an area of woodwork. I still have my scroll saw and a table saw that was Mac's that he never used! How great to have a scrappile to go look through when you need something. I need more shelves and would be nice to have a scrappile to browse through.. and when you make it, you'll have memories of Steve too. A win win situation... the red and white checked paper is just so perfect for your style too! Wish you could come here and build me some shelves! :-) hugs.. Marilyn
