Another DIY

Here I am again doing a DIY

and hunting through

Steve's scrap wood :)

I looked on Amazon for grow lights

to start seedlings.

I could purchase two lights

for $19.99

or

one light on a stand

for $42.29

Can you believe that I was

able to squirt enough paint

out of that same bottle

that I painted the cabinet with

to paint this stand :)

🌱🌱🌱🍅🌱🌱🌱

Well, my thrifty decision

was to purchase two lights

and build a stand

that holds both lights

instead of purchasing

one that holds one light

for twice the price.

Now all I have to do

is go to town and buy

some soil to fill

my starter pots.

Seeds I already have.

🌱🌱🌱🍅🌱🌱🌱

It's suppose to get down to

9 degrees the next three days.

Burrrrrrrrrrrrrrr . . .

that's stay inside weather :)

🌱🌱🌱🍅🌱🌱🌱

Can't believe I'm thinking

about spring planting

when it's this cold outside.

Stay warm dear friends,

Your blogging sister,

Connie :)

  1. Ha! I'm the first to comment! You are just on a DIY roll! That is such a great idea! I don't have room for anything like that unfortunately.. but your idea is just awesome Connie! I'm sure not thinking of flowers yet.. though do have on my "to do" list to go outside and clean out all my flower pots and garden space! One of these days when we have some 50 degree weather I'll do it. (Smiles)........ you are so lucky to have that saw and the hold driller. I found out that the neighbors here have a workshop area by the community bldg. and he said I could come use his tools, and he'd make room for my two saws.. one is a smaller table saw and one is a scroll saw. Maybe I'll do that when it gets warmer. I do love working with wood. Just haven't done it for a long time! You go girl!!! Marilyn

    1. I have sold and given a way many of Steve's tools, but not the ones that I can use. There is always something needing repaired or a project like this one that I can do myself and save money.

  2. Look at you! You're doing great!
I'm ready for Spring. I think your plans for planting are perfect for Spring fever.

    1. Yes, by the 1st of March or maybe a little before I want to have my peppers and tomatoes started. Plants were $4 each around here last year and I can get plants enough to keep and some to give away with a pack of $2 seeds.
      I know I'm a penny pincher.

  3. Look at you! I'm amazed at your ingenuity and skill. Those stands are perfect for your grow lights and the paint stretching is funny! You are thrifty. I'm jealous of all of your cupboards. You have so much storage area.
We're supposed to be below zero at night for several nights at the end of the week with snow forecast. We really haven't had any snow in almost a year so it's needed but I'd rather not have it. :-) Rain instead would be good for the farmers.
    Have a lovely Tuesday Connie.
    Blessings,
    Betsy

    1. Thanks for stopping by and visiting. We haven't had hardly any snow either and I'm with you I'd rather it warmed up and we got a lot of rain. The little time that I was outside today going back and forth from the shop and the fact that the shop isn't heated the tips of my fingers were so cold. Maybe it's my age but my hands were actually in pain because of the cold. They were fine when I came in and got warmed up.

  4. It's cold here, too, but I bought seeds recently. Spring will come sooner than we think. Love your DIY for holding the grow lights.

  5. Another brilliant project Connie. It's too cold for seeds here, but I have some starting soon in the greenhouse.

    1. I plant my seeds inside in the mud room and then in April I take them out to my greenhouse. Our weather is so cold here right now and I don't heat my greenhouse. Although I have thought about putting a little heater out there in the spring. For the night only.

    1. When you're on a tight budget you learn to improvise. That's all I'm doing, but I'm very blessed that Steve has all that wood stacked up in the corner of the shop. It amazes me how many things I've made from his wood pile.

  10. What a great idea to build your own stand to hold those grow lights. My sister who lives out on the frigid prairies was just telling me about her grow lights and the seeds she's going to be sowing soon, It's a great way to save money by growing your own.

    1. Yes it is . . . If you're planting a garden big enough for canning or sharing those plants at the market can get very expensive. Seeds are much better option.

  11. Hello Connie! I was sooooo delighted to see that you visited Writing Straight from the Heart and commented, too. What a delight that was. You are quite amazing. I could not do half the things that you do. I think you are very ingenious. Take care and have a great day. Please stop by anytime!

  12. Good for you figuring out your own stand and it looks like it is going to work great. Yes it is hard for me to think of growing plants when it is this cold too, looks like you have a great set up for it!

Steve would be so proud of you for using his wood scraps to build things. You are so thrifty and resourceful. I wish I had your ambition and talent. <3
