A Friday Night To Be A Kid Again

Me and two very fancy gentlemen.

Somewhere in my early 50’s I mentioned to Steve that I had never been to the circus.  Then one day he called me at work and told me that the circus was in town and that they were getting ready to put up their tents.
As soon as I got off work I rushed down and watched them use the elephant’s strength to raise the tents.  That was 12 or maybe 15 years ago.  We attended that circus and I was in heaven, it was a big three ring circus and the shows were amazing.  I remember a little girl who was 7 years old doing an act on the trapeze, way up at the top of the tent.
I also remember that I was still holding
my daughter’s hand in the grocery store parking lot when she was seven.

These tents are so colorful and look so impressive as you're driving into town.

Anyway to make a long story short (maybe I’m too late for that LOL) the circus is in town and Steve called me at home and told me to go to town and get tickets because we were going.  This circus is small compared to the first one I saw, but this one was for charity.  It was a one ring Shrine Circus and as many of you known the money goes to the Shrine Hospitals for Children.  So whatever this circus lacked in magnificence it made up for in human kindness.   I only took a few photos because it was plain to see that in the dark light and as far for the ring as we where, my photos would not be very good . . .so I decided to just relax and enjoy.

Everyone loves the elephants.

One thing I did discover Friday evening was that you are never too old to get a good laugh from the antics of a circus clown.
I hope you did something fun this weekend,
life is too short . . . do something.
Even if it is a walk, a bicycle ride,
a visit with a dear friend,
or if you can't get away,
bake a cake and invite a friend over.

What did you do this weekend?
How old were you when you first went to the circus?

  1. Would you believe I was almost 60 as we were minding the grandchildren and a small circus came to the next town,Bob and I took them but I think we had even more fun, I loved it then again 2 years ago I got to go when we were given tickets as a gift for our 40th anniversary, but it was Circus de Sole and very gorgeous but I remember so much more about the little one. it is a beautiful day too nice for house work but as a working lady I have no choice,I am sure if i am time careful I can get to the sun on the verandah after lunch!

    1. It may be a fact that our first circus will always be our best. Our granddaughter were not in town, but I was lucky enough to have this little 6 year old boy sitting next to me. We stuck up a little friendship and discussed some of your favorite things . . . and agreed that the elephants took top billing in your minds. It's was fun enjoying it with this little boy. I'll never see him again, but last night I had my darling Steve on one side of me and a child at his first circus on the other side. It doesn't get much better. I hope you have time to sit out on your veranda. Your lovely blue house with it's pretty front porch looks like a very restful place to sit for awhile and unwind from a hard days work. I'm so glad that you stopped by, I loved reading your comment and getting to know you a little bit better. God Bless, Connie :)

  2. Hi Connie, it seems to have been forever since I went to a circus, but as far as this weekend, we had a wonderful time with our grand daughter staying over while her Mum and Dad went to a Wedding. We had so much fun, enjoying the "little" things like reading a book and making all the animal noises, going outside and seeing a cow, picking up a feather, cuddling...you know what I mean. Lovely! Bye for now Jane

  3. I haven't been to a circus in over 20 years...but it was a wonderful, exciting time when I did go! However, I would NOT have been happy posing between the 2 clowns...I am not fond of clowns (and that is an understatement!)...nice photo of you though!

    1. I have a friend who is deadly afraid of clowns . . . I guess that is why people like Stephen King uses them in his thrillers. Have a great week and stay away from clowns, Connie :)

  4. Hi Connie,

Oh, I love the photo of you and the clowns! How fun - I love that you are a kid at heart. I can't remember how old I was when I first went to a circus. I always loved the elephants and lions and the women in their fancy trapeze costumes. Oh, and the clowns, I LOVE clowns. I actually dressed up as a clown for my high school homecoming parade!

This weekend was so nice. I went to a craft fair and had breakfast with a friend. Today I met another friend for coffee and now I'm finally getting caught up on email, blogs, etc. I might post some photos from yesterday's craft fair.

    hugs,
    Kay

    1. I would love to see your craft show photos. Sounds like you had a great weekend.
When my daughter was a very little girl, we would dress up like clowns and fill our pockets with taffy kisses and go to the city park. It was so much fun, because the kids would all get excited and want to play with the clowns. We would even walk down our main street this way. That was over thirty-five years ago. Today we would probably need a permit and background check, or we would be ticketed and throw in jail. Looking forward to your next post. Connie :)

  5. Oh, it looks like you had such fun - those clowns are fabulous and the elephant magnificent. It's a long time since I've been to a circus.
We have a Bank Holiday here tomorrow, but unfortunately I shall be spending it studying!
Thanks for popping by. J x

  6. I remember going to the circus as a child and I always loved the trapeze artists. Here in the UK, most circus do not have animals these days but they are still splendid xxx

    1. I think that everyone loves the lady on the flying trapeze. There is a song about that, my Dad used to sing it when I was a little girl. Do you know it? Connie :)

    1. Hi Susan, I love the hook rug that you are working on. I have never seen one done with fabric, It is going to be so lovely when it is done. I would hang it on the wall. That is way too much work to have people stepping on it with their dirty old shoes. Have a great day :)

    1. Hi Mary, you know another one of my followers from the UK said the same thing. I wonder why your circuses do not have animal acts. Has it always been that way?

  10. Hi Connie - thanks for your visit and nice comments on my blog, I am happy to meet you. It looks like you had a great time at the circus! The Shriners have a circus around here at least annually and I took my kids a few times over the years while they were growing up, but it has to be 15 years since I went.

I hope you have a wonderful week, I'll be checking in on you. Take care!

    1. Hi Tracy, I'm so glad you dropped by. I love the cupboard you re-purposed, I am working on a sewing machine cabinet that I purchased at a yard sale this weekend. I'll post it when it is finished. It is amazing what a little sanding and some white paint can do. Have a lovely week, Connie :)

  11. Those clowns look fantastic! I love their clothes and make up. And what an adorable elephant!
I've only ever been to a circus once, and it was a loooong time ago, so I can't really remember much. Glad to hear you had an amazing time! :)

    1. I believe that some times you just have to do something child like, and the circus was great fun. My body may be getting older, but as long as I can I'm going to keep a lighthearted outlook. I keep a small wooden box on my front porch filled with sidewalk chalk. The two little girls that live across the street come over and we go out front and draw all over the sidewalks together. I have as much fun as they do. The problem is they are moving this week, their folks were renting and found a cheaper place to rent about a mile from here. They will still come by to visit, but I'll miss them coming over to play. I've become their adopted grandma.

  12. I think the first time I remember going to a circus, my step-mom took me and my brothers.
I have never been to one in a tent though, now that would be the full experience.
    Great photos.

    1. Hi Tracy, it's was a lot of fun to just kick back and do something silly and fun. We laughed a lot, enjoyed the performances and just took in all the activity around us. It beat our normal Friday night in front of the boob tube, that's for sure. Connie :)

    1. I'm happy that you like my guitar and the offer to guest post sounds fun, but I have know idea what that is, or how to do it. I'm just an old dog trying to learn a few new tricks and afraid to do much, because I have clicked a wrong button at times and really messed things up. LOL. Of course it is not funny when it happens, so much about blogging and any social networking . . . is just totally Greek to me. Connie :)
