Making Donuts

Why is it that every year at this time  . . .
when the air outside gets chilly . . .
I want to bake and eat :)

Good-Bye summer salads and vegetables
(unless they are in soup)
Hello pies, cakes, bread, and donuts.

Heat up the oven and get out the deep fryer,

⭐ And hide the bathroom scales, LOL

Don't forget that for every donut
there is a hole.
I think the holes should count as
zero calories.
What do you think?

I sat these down to take a photo
and when I came back with my phone . . .
half of one of the donuts was gone.

That's a sign that my sweetie likes them :)

Here's a link to a simple recipe for
Basic Cake Donuts.
It's the one I used:

Do you do more baking this time of the year?

  2. Somehow its the colder time of year that makes you think of pies, casseroles, stews, and of course, doughnuts!

  3. I must admit I like to bake (and eat) all year round! We always have coffee and a homebaked snack when we come back from our morning walk. Never doughnuts, though. I don't have a deep fryer.

  4. Ahhh, cold weather comfort food and baking, what could be nicer. Never tried to make donuts though, your look so yummy!

  5. Those look so good and yes we tend to eat more when the weather cools down too.

  6. I think our bodies know we need more calories to keep warm. I feel the same about baking and comfort foods in the cooler weather. It does not help my weight loss goals though. Your donuts look delicious.

  7. YUM, those donuts look delicious. I don't do much baking at home any more especially now with it only being me. I always used to do more in the colder months though and that would explain why I've always gained weight over the winter. Those bulky winter sweaters are good for hiding the extra pounds

  8. Yum-yum! Love this.. :)
I pretty much eat anything all year round and once, many years ago, I did make donuts.

  9. They sure do look good. I like to bake year round!! Most of the baking I do goes to the kids at church!! Which is a good thing because I'd never be able to walk it all off!! : )

  13. Hi Connie, Your donuts do look delicious. I made cake donuts once but baked them and didn't care for them. Frying them must make the difference cause yours sure look good. I have not baked anymore than usual but it seems I am hungrier! Managed to get my blog posted today but that didn't burn many calories! LOL Nancy

  16. Those donuts look amazing. Cold weather does make me crave more fattening foods especially baked goods...and I am not a good baker. I do love making soups and stews, oh, and hot chocolate.

  17. Shoot, I meant to say..that is so funny that you came back to take a picture and half a donut was gone. Reminds me of the time Shelby (my sister, the cook) had two cake layers cooling on the kitchen counter. She came back to ice the cake and someone had cut a piece from one of the layers.

  19. Your donuts look so so good! I've never made them. My mom used to make the plain cake donuts and then shake them up in a sack with powdered sugar. They were delicious. I bought myself a little mini donut maker (looks kind of like a waffle maker) but have never made any yet.. in fact I think it's the donut holes, not the donut. My husband got on a kick to make some so I got him a pan with the donut shapes.. so you can bake them in the oven, but he's never made any! I don't have a deep fat fryer but I think they could be made in a deep cast iron skillet. And YES.. this time of year I just want to bake and eat eat eat! Memories of my mom baking for the holidays come back so fresh... she started her Christmas cookies usually in October.. put them in tins once made and froze them. She would make at least 20 kinds! Just this last week I've made a chocolate cake with homemade chocolate frosting, and a pumpkin pie cake (that is scrumptious!). My next thing will be sugar cookies. All these are gluten free.. and I make a mean spritz cookie (also gluten free)... that is like what my mom made.. they are Scandanavian butter cookies. I must admit, I love baking and eating year-round! That was so funny that the bite was gone from the donut! Hugs... Marilyn

  20. Connie, When there a nip in the air...baking helps warm the house and our tummies. Haha about someone taking some of your donut. Praying Steve is feeling much better. I know you will feel great when he does. My Teddy is getting some energy back. And we have done a couple chores together. Getting the two long(did I say long) garden hoses drained and put in the shed. Then we made fire starters. It made him tired but felt good working together again. You and Steve are in my prayers, Blessings, xoxo, Susie

  21. Great looking donuts! I bake all year long as I have to have a little sweetness with tea...cookies or a muffin....just a little something. I know one thing, I am very tired at this time of year....hibernation node? enjoy your donuts!
