I was in the mood to do
something/anything
to spruce up our place a bit,
but as usual I didn't want to
spend any money doing it, LOL
I found this board already cut
into a 22" by 23" almost square . . .
good enough for me :)
As you can see in the lower
red section, there was a cut into the wood.
My motto is beggars can't be choosers . . .
so I went with it, as is,
and painted a quilt block
to hang on our gate :)
Also, while I was in a DIY mood
I decided to see if I could
bring a little life back
into these chairs.
They have sit outside for the past
eight or nine years and
look pretty badly weathered.
First I taped off the chairs
to paint only the medal frames,
but you know how spray paint
sprays out far and beyond
what you're working on.
When I started to remove the
tape, I quickly taped it back
and processed to paint
the center of the chairs.
I do like how they turned out.
Now I'll have to purchase
more paint and get them all
done . . . but no hurry.
Maybe by Spring :)
That's it . . .
I hope I've inspired you
to look around and see if
you can do any little DIY project
for little or no money.
These two projects were free to me . . .
I had enough left over paint
to do them both and the board
came from Steve's scrap pile :)
Have A Lovely Day!
Your blogging sister,
Connie :)
Connie, You know your Steve is smiling at what you have done with the wood scrap. You have even made those chairs look great. I love how that looks. Plus the quilt square has brightened up the gate. Hope you are doing well. I think of you often. You are in my prayers. Blessings my friend, xoxo, love, Susie
ReplyDeleteSusie, you are a wonderful blogging friend. Thank you for your kind comments and especially for your prayers.
DeleteGreat projects!! I wish I had some of your talent to make and do things :)
ReplyDeleteOh, you give me too much credit . . . these were simple projects, but I do like how they spruced up the place a bit. Thank you :)
DeleteOh the quilt square on the fence looks so bright and colorful and I love how you made the chairs look fresh again. Great job!!
ReplyDeleteI like how the chairs turned out, too. I think I'll be able to get a few more years out of them now and not feel like they are too shabby for guests :)
DeleteWhat a great idea you had to create a wooden 'quilt block'. Your newly refurbished chairs look so good. Now I know what we'll do with our faded chairs next Spring. I love getting inspired by the projects of others.Thank you.
ReplyDeleteI was hoping there would be someone with faded chairs that would be inspired by this post. Faded does not mean that they are not still strong and have lots of life in them . . . kind of like me, I'm faded from the years but i've not given up on life.
DeleteI love them both! And the paint jon on the chair turned out perfect.
ReplyDeleteI think Steve would be proud of you for what you did for free!
Thanks Mari, you are very kind :)
DeleteI really like how creative you were with your chairs. They look like new chairs now. My daughter in law made one of those quilt blocks and I'm thinking about making one for our porch... as if I don't already have enough projects in the works!
ReplyDeleteIt's always fun to do a new project and to freshen up a space with something new or seasonal :) I think I'll make another one, between now and spring, with either a tulip pattern or a basket. I'll have to look at quilt blocks on line and find one I like for spring :) Be sure and post yours if you make one:)
DeleteHi Connie, You are so good at creating wonderful things out of left overs! I love the quilt board on the fence. Hugs, Nancy
ReplyDeleteHi Nancy, thank you, it was good therapy just doing something around here to spruce up the place. I feel like I've not none much of that for a long while.
DeleteHello Connie, so lovely to see you be creative and doing the things you love. I love the new gate decoration.
ReplyDeleteThank you :) It actually felt very good doing these projects.
DeleteI love, love, love that pretty quilt block. That would never have occurred to me. The painted chairs were a stroke of brilliance too. Do you leave them out in the snow? We have always put our lawn furniture in storage in our shed in the winter but we don't have a shed or garage here at the RV park. We're not sure what to do with them.
ReplyDeleteI hope all is well with you. You're still in my daily prayers for peace and comfort.
Blessings,
Betsy
We used to store them inside or shack them up and cover tightly with a trap, but the last few years we have left them outside in the weather and in the summer the sprinklers would hit them and hard water messed up the metal finish. I was surprised at how well the spray paint did on them. I am planing on storing any that I get painted in the shop this winter.
DeleteWhat a great job Connie. I love the chairs, you have given them a new lease of life.
ReplyDeleteI think if I start storing them back inside in the winter they should have many more years. I hate spending money on something that still has function so this paint job prettied them up enough to make them look new again :)
DeleteLove the barn quilt. It looks great.
ReplyDeleteGood idea with those chairs. I think it looks really good with the centers painted.
Thanks :)
DeleteI love the thought of a quilt hanging on the gate! You do such amazing things Connie, very inspiring.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much :)
DeleteHi Connie- Splendid job on the Gate Decoration - and your Chairs turned out beautifully- just like new. Your always so clever and very good with craft. Hope you are well and safe there. Still Spring here with warm days and cold nights- I'm looking forward to the Summer months. Best Wishes. KEV.
ReplyDeleteThanks Kevin :)
DeleteLove your quilt board! Very smart of you to paint your chairs too! I hope you're well.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you like the, I'm tickle with the way the chairs turned out and will slowly be painting some more until they all look new again :)
DeleteHi Connie,
ReplyDeleteWell done on both projects.
We just finished a huge project.. staining our house and changing the color of the trim.
Carla
It's always so refreshing to do projects that enhance our homes . . . big and small :)
DeleteGreat gate quilt block, Connie. Don't forget to spray a clear coat acrylic to protect it from the elements or take it over winter. Very creative with the painting your chairs. Good ideas with saving money or at least not spending any. Be safe ad enjoying the Fall season.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the tip and for your sweet comment :)
DeleteOh, you are so clever. Lovely wooden quilt block, and such a great job on sprucing up those outdoor chairs. Yes, you certainly have to do the others to match now.
ReplyDeleteYes, I'll slowly get around to the others . . . some maybe not until spring, but by next year I'll try an have them done and all prettied up, LOL.
DeleteOh Connie, I love your quilt block on wood! It graces that gate beautifully! You are so talented to find and make new things from old things. And those chairs look like new.... funny how an "accident" can turn into something beautiful. They are very unique with that center area painted black! Love them! I have two old redwood chairs that I'm still hanging onto that I want to stain or paint. I think they need to be white with some pretty cushions. So they sit outside every winter (covered with a tarp) waiting to be re-loved. We don't have anywhere to store them out of the weather. The fairy godmother needs to bring us a bright shiny new (and big) shed! :-) Take care and have a lovely weekend. You are always in my thoughts and prayers. Hugs.. Marilyn
ReplyDeleteThese poor old chairs have been out in the weather too much, but I am delighted in how they turned out. I wasn't sure how it would work, but by the way they looked, I wasn't taking much of a change to find out. They couldn't have turned out any worse than they already were, LOL
DeleteYou have that artistic mind where you can think outside the box. Love both projects! I'll have to remember that one with the chairs - we have two similar chairs on our front porch and I know in the next year or two, they're going to need some sprucing up.
ReplyDeleteIt's a shame to throw out something that can be given a face lift . . . these chairs still seem very strong and usable. I'm really tickled with how they turned out and glad that I could inspire a few friends to try it.
DeleteYou've done a great job of making pretty and useful things from what you already have. Such talent!
ReplyDeleteoh, you're making be blush . . . thanks.
Deletethat is such a cool quilt, reminds me of those ones you see on the side of barns, great idea, fun for people to see when they drive by :)
ReplyDeleteGreat idea with the chairs, I have a couple that could use an update like that. I am with you, I am always trying to repurpose my things!
I can't see wasting money on anything that still has enough life in it to spruce up with a little paint :)
DeleteCool! Very creative. And thrifty, too. Both projects really add sparkle to your already beautiful yard.
ReplyDeleteYou're so sweet, thank you :)
DeleteMost creative and I do love the thought of doing something on the cheap, and being happy with the result. Love the quilt square. Hope all goes well with you.
ReplyDeleteThe quilt block is beautiful! What a great idea and something you can put on your porch sometime too. It feels good to make something and to spruce things up. Enjoy your day my friend!
ReplyDeleteWell done you have done a good job. I don't really need to be inspired, living in a 200+ year old house total restoration and updating never seems to end. Have a good day and stay safe. Diane
ReplyDeleteYour board project is really cute! I love the colours and the shapes! :) xx
ReplyDeleteHi Connie, love what you've done! That zip of color brings cheer. Your playing my tune little or no money, that makes projects doable for everyone. Love your creativity it is so inspiring.
ReplyDeleteI like them both, but I gotta say I LOVE the chairs. Bless you.
ReplyDeleteHi Dear Connie
ReplyDeleteI’ve been very slow with my blogging. One might think that during a pandemic blogging would be more frequent with so much time at home. However, it hasn’t worked that way for me. I just now looked at all your posts back to March. I am so sorry to learn of Steve’s passing. God bless you my friend. Your strength through all this is an inspiration to me. I must say that looking back over my experience with this “blogosphere” your Crafty Home Cottage is at the top of the list of creative blogs. And I noticed you mentioned the challenges of the new blogger, let me assure you that you’re doing just fine! Thank you for sharing your blog and for recently stopping by John’s Island and leaving me such a kind comment. Very best regards to you from Seattle. Wishing you a good week ahead!
John
I've been missing you Connie. Your quilt block on the fence is so pretty, and so are your newly painted chairs. You are so creative! I just looked back at your last post too and love the pictures. Guess we both can put away our gardening tools and get ready for a long winter...excited about another spring coming. I've got to spend more time at the computer; blogging and visiting. Love, Henny Oh, I love the quilt you made for your nephew. I've gone crazy over the western look, and horses, lately. Just got to buy myself a pair of cowboy boots, even if I am too old. :)
ReplyDeleteLove your "barn quilt" project. We've seen many of these throughout our travels in Michigan. One lovely barn even had a Halloween style quilt block with silhouette of a witch. It was so charming. I have wanted to make one for my garden shed, specifically a "Bears Paw" block. Soon as it stops raining, I will scout the garage for leftovers to use! Thanks Connie.
